cool stuff. iirc they already have one at cairngorm, not that different in elevation.
i wish they'd put up a true high-elevation station in sweden as well

Yep, I saw that one. They have a weather station on the Cairngorm plateau which isn't that much lower down, though it doesn't have sunshine data which is what I'd be most interested to see. If you go to 3000 m in the Alps winters are far sunnier than in the lowlands, but if you go to 1300 m in Scotland winters are almost permanently foggy/overcast. I wonder if you actually could get to 3000 m in Scotland if you'd see the sun totals start to pick up again because you'd be above the cloud base - I suspect not because the clouds you get with Atlantic frontal systems are too tall.

You're both right about there being a station on Cairngorm, it looks like Gole town hall:

As far as I'm aware the plateau doesn't usually hold onto its snow very well because of the winds, it all gets blown into the gullies. I was there in late June one year, 4-5C, foggy, drizzly, windy and miserable. Boke.

The forecasts always look cool for those mountains. Ben Nevis is dipping to -11C with snow in the coming days.
I know nobody lives up there, but would be quite an experience to climb at this time of year, the combination of temperatures and wind speeds must be frightening at the top.

I went there to do a winter skills course all about learning how to climb with ice axes, crampons etc, must have been 25th and 26th February looking at the dates. Only the higher ground and sheltered gullies even had usable snow, skiing would have been impossible. Looking at the data the winds were "only" 100 km/h or so at the times I was outside in it, thankfully I missed out on the worst of the 150 km/h+ winds by a few hours on both days. Sometimes they have to cancel the course when the winds are so bad that they are actually dangerous. It's an experience I suppose, just not one you'd necessarily want to have again when you can just go to the Alps and play around in the much more guaranteed snow there in much gentler, much more pleasant conditions

Poor weather station, only getting to record anything over 10 degrees a few times a year.
