A wet place in the Tablelands south west inland from Cairns..... not the wettest place in the deep north, but it is right up there. About 700m asl, gets a bit of oregraphic lift and can get heavy rain even in the dry season. Wettest place in AU this month ( March so far ) just under 1200mm for the month. Topaz location: Topaz rainfall so far 2024: 2023 Wet Season: 2022 Wet Season: Previous years means and records: There are not really any climate boxes to give an overall view of the climate generally re latitude, longitude and altitude... Atherton further west ( and much drier )likely has similar temperatures....

It's impossible for a place at 38ยฐS to record such temps in summer. Did I read the data wrong or is there a mistake in the data?

It gets a rather benevolent D from me, due to cooler highs and higher rainfall. Still, too warm generally.

How much of this rain is coming from thunderstorms?

How much of this rain is coming from thunderstorms? To tell the truth I'm not sure.... the region closer to the coast gets surprisingly few, although inland at Atherton they get a few more...not as many as the Darwin region. Going by this map maybe 20-25 a year ?

Going by this map maybe 20-25 a year ? Hmm thatโs pretty awful for that much precipitation. Gotta go with a D then. Surprised Queensland gets so few thunderstorms in general

Surprised Queensland gets so few thunderstorms in general Far North QLD is reasonably mild for its latitude ( of course they do get the heatwaves from the inland on occaision...eg the extremes in both Cairns and Townsville exceed 110f ) The rainfall is of maritime and orographic origin and then monsoonal... not so much convectional stuff in the form of storms. the South East and Central QLD do OK re storms....in fact the south east has the best quality storms in AU... super cells and tornadic.

C
The Jan-Mar period is too rainy, too many rainy days, and not enough seasonality. Beyond that, I can't say anything bad about this climate.
