March has been another decent wet season month across the Darwin and Top End districts... slightly below or just on the March average rainfall in and around Darwin...above average rainfall inland of Darwin., and slightly above average mean min and right on average for max temps. 27 recordable days of rain for the month at my place... 22 days at Darwin Airport. Sites south ( east and west ) of Darwin) have recorded an above average March re rainfall. A decent monsoonal burst mid month and cyclonic conditions delivered flooding rains throughout the eastern and central/southern districts of the NT ... Eastern districts and southern NT had flooding rains caused by the passage of TC Megan ... several sites over on the East Coast recorded +700mm totals for the month ! The south of the Territory was simply hot and dry for 2/3rds of the month...then the rainfall set in for Alice Springs and Tennant Creek ... and produced record cold max temps . as low as 15c-16c below the monthly means.... as well as torrential rains that caused minor flooding in the normally dry Todd River. Rainfall - 384.8mm falling on 22 days ( long term mean 308.9mm) Highest daily fall - 63.0mm on the 13th Max temps - 32.2c av ( long term mean 32.0c ) Highest max - 34.6c on the 28th and 29th. Lowest max - 29.6c on the 14th Min temps - 25.9c av ( long term mean 24.6c ) Highest min - 28.6c on the 19th. Lowest min - 23.9c on the 21st. Rainfall - 222.6mm falling on 10 days ( long term mean 30.9mm) Highest daily fall - 63.8mm on the 24th Max temps - 31.9c av ( long term mean 32.9c) Highest max 40.8c on the 17th. Lowest max 17.4c on the 22nd and 23rd Min temps - 20.8c av ( long term mean 17.6c ) Highest min 26.1c on the 19th. Lowest min 13.2c on the 24th.

March 2024 Summary, SE of SheffieldMarch 2024 expereinced a substantial lower-than-average pressure anomaly as is seen with the mean SLP of just 1,002mb. It is the 5th month to do so since October 2023. This resulted in much more rainy days than average, of a light frontal nature. It resulted also in a lower-than-average sunlight tally. The maximum temperature of 16.9°C was below the normal maximum average temperature of 17.4°C expected in March. The average minimum was 1.6°C and average maximum 1.2°C above average, the minimum temperatures being relatively milder than average due to higher than average cloud amounts. In conclusion the month was mild, a bit damp and sometimes dreary. It was devoid of cold weather and in particular, snow, which usually happens every March.

Mild and wet month with the rediculous lack of cold bleeding into early spring, rare to get a frostless March let alone one with a monthly min above the April mean min! Warm, dry and sunny. A huge improvement over the gloomy disaster that was February. And we were sunnier than Brisbane this month at around 225 hrs (theirs were an abysmal 177 hrs, like our previous Feb). Hehehe!

March 2024 Summary
Average max: 26.4c (+1.8c) Average mean: 19.6c (+1.0c) Average min: 12.8c (+0.2c) Max high: 37.1c (9th) Max low: 25.5c (10th) Min high: 18.4c (20th) Min low: 6.6c (21st) Precipitation: 10.2mm (21.9% of average) Precipitation days (>= 0.2mm): 3 Precipitation days (>= 1mm): 3 Sunshine: 264.3 hours Continuing the trend of February, March was warm, very dry and sunny. In fact, the highest temp this summer/autumn happened on the 9th, so the seasonal lag is strong this year. Otherwise, nothing much to add as everything else has already been said. Note: From now on I'm adding sunshine percentages for each month.

So there's no data for March 14 or later on xmacis at Cal Poly. So I found an unofficial weather station reporting raw data: www.agtelemetry.com/calpoly_itrc/?show=72Sometimes it doesn't match up with the official weather station. For March 1-13, the averages were 62.6/45.7F and 2.44" (unofficial) vs. 62.8/46.5F and 2.54" (official). Anyways I just decided to use the official data for March 1-13 and then extract the highs, lows, and daily precipitation from the unofficial data March 14-31. Mostly normal month, just slightly cool and wet. (edited on 4/22/24: the official data was added and I updated the weather box)

March climate data for my area and the west coast. They are preliminary and may contain errors. The verified data is published by the meteorological service itself for the previous year, usually at the beginning of the new year in January or February as a pdf.
