March was another very warm month, in fact, the second warmest on record for Zagreb. #1 for the eastern parts of the country. Decently wetter than average too.
It had one day of snowfall. Which is one more day than February lol.
The first thunderstorm of the year also happened this month, with some local hail.
But beyond that, it was a pretty tame month. Not much in terms of cold, not much in terms of windiness/storminess.
Anomalies for Zagreb:
High: 16.2C (+3.2C) Mean: 10.7C (+3.3C) Low: 5.2C (+2.7C) Precip: 95.0 mm (+47.0 mm) Sun: 140 h (-10 h)
Split had a very wet and warm March. 3rd warmest on record.
Anomalies for Split:
High: 16.3C (+1.8C) Mean: 13.5C (+2.2C) Low: 10.9C (+2.4C) Precip: 142.0 mm (+83.6 mm) Sun: 186 h (-9 h)

March in Auckland was a quick (and earlier than usual!) shift into autumn weather. It was the coldest March in 12 years since the 2011-12 non-summer. Definitely felt a bit strange, especially given the constant string of above average temperatures in recent years and the fact that March here is almost always just an extension of summer.

The fact that Zagreb was Dfb for 1961-1990 and then records these Jan-Mar months is just insane to me

1.2F warmer than normal and 0.01" wetter than normal. Warmer temps in the 1st half of the month than the 2nd half. Daily record max temp was set on Mar 14 with a high of 86F. Then on the morning of March 19 had some frost with temp dropping not far from freezing. Several storm systems but nothing that severe. 5 days with thunder. Data for my PWS

The fact that Zagreb was Dfb for 1961-1990 and then records these Jan-Mar months is just insane to me
Comparison with the 1961-1990 period:
Absolutely ridiculous.
But those aren't just some random numbers in the weather box, all of this can be seen manifesting in the real world. People (especially the older ones) really can see that this is a quite different climate to the one that Zagreb had before.
-Severely reduced snowfall, very mild winters, trees leafing out earlier/ flowers growing earlier. -In spring we sometimes have cold air intrusions that can damage the blossoms and ruin the fruit amounts. -In late spring/summer we have these highly damaging storms, strong winds and hail (especially in the northern parts of the country). -Some summers can be very dry too, which damages crops. We have extreme temperatures occurring more too.
-Fall can have some washout storms with floods. Also more summery temps than before.
The weather and nature in the 20th century were more balanced and seasonal - cold winters and mild-warm summers.
Not many damaging storms, not many extreme heat events. Plenty of snowfall and cold too. Just following basic seasons. Now it's just crazy.
By the way, I think it's worth mentioning that we've had 3 days of snowfall in total during this 2023/24 season. A far cry from the amount we used to get before.
