Personally, I'd say April. I'm so ready for spring by April 1 that having another chilly month is super soul-crushing.

April, May and June (voted May). This is when monthly anomolies are the most critical, it could either be interesting nice spring/early summer weather month complete with storms or a cool cloudy stratocrapulus nightmare (e.g. Gay/Prune 2023) which also shortens the length of the warm time of year.

April. Sometimes it can feel like an extension of winter when things are supposed to be warming up.

Any winter month because I dislike snow and frost and high winter energy bills.

November as it prolongs the winter season by an extra month. March is does too but it’s averages are warmer than November so it takes a bigger anomaly to suck and it’s wetter, so it’s more interesting even if it’s cold.

Depending on the climate, I'd go for the first or the second spring month, so March or April in the NH, and September and October in the SH. So I guess April is a good answer.

None of them for here, since all are warmer than my ideal (though less so in summer). I'll say October or November though because that's when I'm not yet acclimated to cooler temps yet so extended below average temps can be uncomfortable combined with the weaker sun.

March through May is the worst season for below-average, definitely. Ideally I want to be in a colder climate than I am now, but I don't want Spring to be much different.
I think April. Even a record cold April won't get much wintry weather here, it will just be a long drawn-out early spring for the most part. 2018 was an exception where it did get some good snowfalls. A cold March can be like a winter month which is OK. And a cold May is still decent weather, unless it's very wet. The other 9 months I'm generally hoping for below-average temps.

February, because I despise "backloaded" winters. I want February to be a pretty springlike month.

August. Although extremely rare, I get hard pressed when the last month of winter registers cooler than average temps.

May-Sept because I don't care if it's below or above avg then. The other months above average sucks

May. I care about interesting weather and precip more than temperatures here, but May is unusually cool for what should be a summer-adjacent month.

Meteorological spring months (March, April, May). My ideal climate is a classic oceanic climate so spring months are always cooler than autumn months to be realistic by long-term averages but actually I want spring months to have faster progress toward the warmth.

November. Below average Novembers here are typically cloudy and rainy with average temps comparable to October

For me its June-July. Already the coolest time of the year, so well below temps ( especially mins ) are a bit shithouse.... lol. A coupla dry seasons ago the indoors temp dropped to 18c ! had to put socks on the feet as the floorboards were cold !

January. It's already cold and windy at this time, and below average temps just make it worse.
