It's well-established that clouds reflect some incoming sunlight, tending to cool Earth's surface, but they also trap some heat leaving Earth's surface, causing warming at night. But how do cloudy/clear skies affect hourly temps relative to other sky conditions in your particular location? IEM has a neat plot for it: mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/plotting/auto/?_wait=no&q=88

Cloud cover affects temps here slightly more than in New Bern.

The negative influence is more limited to the high sun season here; and there is a slight negative impact even at midnight. The clear vs. all plot doesn't look right, not sure which data source they are using.

It uses METAR hourly/half-hourly/multi-hourly data, though yeah, data may not always be of very good quality especially for international stations

Clear days are generally warmer here outside of winter, most notably in spring, while cloudy days tend to be warmer in the winter. Cloudy early mornings are warmer on average year-round. Aligns well with my anecdotal observations.

Cloudy afternoons noticeably cooler year round but especially in fall. Least effect in winter and overnight.

Does mostly cloudy include if thereβs precipitation? Or are hours with precipitation excluded altogether?
