Continuing the theme of similar sounding place names, its Appleton, WI and Applethorpe in QLD. Should sooth the souls of polar foamers, as Applethorpe is one of the few places that records the odd snowfall in Queensland... Oh and Applethorpe and the Granite Belt of QLD is cool enough climatically to actually grow stone fruits and apples as opposed to tropical fruits like in the rest of QLD. APPLETON, WI: Climate: Appleton has a humid continental climate typical of Wisconsin. Summers are warm to hot and winters are rather cold in comparison. Precipitation is relatively moderate compared to other areas close to the Great Lakes, which means lesser snowfall in winter than in many other cold areas. Being inland from Lake Michigan, Appleton is prone to temperature extremes. The hottest temperature recorded was 42 °C during the 1936 Dust Bowl and the coldest was −36 °C in 1929. The coldest maximum on record is −29 °C set in 1994 and the warmest minimum being 28 °C in 1912. On average, the coldest maximum temperature of the year during the normals between 1991 and 2020 was at a frigid −17 °C and the warmest minimum averaged 23 °C. APPLETHORPE, QLD: Climate: Owing to its elevation, Applethorpe features a subtropical highland climate (Cfb). At an altitude of 872 metres , Applethorpe/Stanthorpe holds the record for the lowest temperature recorded in Queensland at −10.6 °C on 23 June 1961. Sleet and light snowfalls are occasionally recorded, with the most significant snowfall in over 30 years occurring on 17 July 2015. Up to 8 centimetres fell on Applethorpe and nearby areas that day.

Applethorpe, much milder winters but similar summers makes that an obvious choice

I was going to say, I remember this battle!
Applethorpe obviously; the weak summers aren't nearly as offensive as the PTSD-inducing winters of my former hometown.

Unsurprisingly no votes in the new thread for Appleton, this is no longer the polar foaming circlejerk this forum used to be.
