Recent years (give or take a couple weeks):
Spring: April through May (2 months) Summer: June through September (4 months) Autumn: October through December (3 months) Winter: January through March (3 months)
- September is basically a summer month albeit slightly cooler and more prone to the coolest days since May or June with the potential for highs below 70 F/21 C. - Full blown winter seems to extend through most of March and sometimes into early April. On the flip side, seems difficult to get any sort of chilly weather in the fall and White Christmas is not common. I'd say this is the first fall in years we've had sustained periods of colder weather.

I use the meteorological definition to determine which season we're in. They fit the weather fairly well here. Snow is mostly likely to happen in December, January and February but can also happen to a reasonable degree in March.

The meteorological definition almost perfectly fits the dates when average highs are above/below 10c and 20c.

The weather is fairly similar year-round except that it's noticeably sunnier and drier during Nov - Apr. "Winter" would be late Nov - early Mar. Still mostly 25 C lows and 33 C highs but there are occasional cold snaps due to incursions of cold air from Central Asia that bring temps and dew points down a lot for up to a week at a time. Dewpoints are usually noticeably lower during this period too (usually 18 - 22 C). March - May has the hottest temps and most thunderstorms. We call this "summer" but it would be more accurately termed the build up to the wet season. Many days will exceed 35 C during this period coupled with high humidity. Towards the end of "summer" days with heavy rainfall become increasingly frequent (thus keeping a lid on temps) until the beginning of the wet season in June. This is a long, wet, humid and cloudy period lasting until Nov. Thick clouds and heavy rain mean that temps rarely exceed 35 C during this period. Rainfall peaks in Sep - Oct after which it drops off very quickly.

I still remember how hard it used to be to get out of bed on a winter morning. Now I don't even have bedsheets lol. But the heat and humidity is way over the top here. Somewhere like Cairns is probably the best of both worlds.

From my point of view each season blends into each other here. There is no set date it just slowly transitions into the next season.
Winter - For me living in London I would say mid December onwards because this is the time of year when the likelihood of snow/frost/ice increases by alot. But it can look like winter by mid November.
Spring - Late February pretty much blends to spring for me. Sun is much brighter and it feels less drab.
Summer - Late May feels like summer is here though I would say mid June is when vegetation is properly green and summerlike
Autumn - Late September into early October. Most of September is pretty much summery.

It can vary a bit from year-to-year, particularly the warmer months, but in general it goes something like this in Saskatoon...
Winter - November through March Spring - April through June Summer - July/August Fall - September/October
June can flip back and forth between spring or summer depending on the year. It definitely starts to feel like summer most years, particularly in the second half, at the same time it's very distinct from July and August which are quite clearly the real summer months here, so I suppose it's in a bit of a grey zone.

The astronomical definitions of seasons fit well with the beginning of each season by temperature because of seasonal lag, except that I think that summer starts at around June 15th and ends at around September 15th, which is around the time when the average temperature exceeds 22°C.

Winter: December 7 ~ March 7 Spring: March 8 ~ June 7 Summer: June 8 ~ September 8 Fall: September 9 ~ December 6
That is using average highs <40 f for winter and >75 f for summer. That feels pretty accurate for me although in recent years everything seems a couple days too early. Will be interesting to see when these dates are when 91-20 normals come out
A possible measure could also be vegetation wise, ie first crocuses and buds meaning spring, full leaf out meaning summer, first fall colors meaning fall and fully bare trees meaning winter.
Using that measure it would be
Winter: late November ~ mid March Spring: mid March ~ late May Summer: late May ~ early September Fall: early September ~ late November
That seems less accurate with shortened shoulder seasons and lengthened winter/summer.
Obviously depends on the year though.
