Both are on the 32' latitude or so. Geography is similar (east coast, slightly inland, right on a river & floodplain). Both are humid subtropical, but one is more humid and wetter with colder record lows, and the other is more milder in comparison though with extreme heat records. Taree's sunshine hours will be a lot similar to Sydney's - 2600, maybe 2700 hrs.

Taree for its milder summers.
(What's up with those P.O.R. from Australian stations, though?)

Taree for its superior temps
As for its P.O.R., there are 2 weather stations from the BoM in Taree: - Patanga Cl- 1907-2005 (also records clear/cloudy days) - Airport AWS- 1997-2024
Some differences between their record temps

They're very similar but I'll go with Taree for having slightly drier summers with much more comfy, lower dewpoints.

Taree... only because those frosts in Savannah make me cringe... Taree seems pretty prone to frosts as well, oddly.

Taree... only because those frosts in Savannah make me cringe... Taree seems pretty prone to frosts as well, oddly. ^^Inland somewhat from the coast ( many, without looking at a map, think Taree is a beachside town... ) "Taree is a city on the Mid North Coast, New South Wales, Australia. It and nearby Cundletown were settled in 1831 by William Wynter. Since then it has grown to a population of 26,381, and commands a significant agricultural district. Situated on a floodplain by the Manning River, it is 16 km from the Tasman Sea coast, and 317 km north of Sydney The map shows the location of the original weather station and the newer AWS at the Airport. The older town site had a -5c min in 1970.

SNIP The older town site had a -5c min in 1970. I know it's slightly inland (I just posted its map earlier in the Savannah vs Taree thread). But it just isn't inland enough to warrant such striking record lows, no? For a Sydney comparison, it's as inland as Burwood and Campsie, which are inner western suburbs -- These haven't recorded lows as cold as -4C, and three times even (I believe -1C is the furthest they went, i.e. Canterbury). In the Sydney Plain, you'd expect -4C and -5C in the far southwest like MacArthur (i.e. Camden, Campbelltown), which are like 50km inland. Maybe Taree's in some sort of a frost hollow or it lacks UHI...Who knows...

Maybe Taree's in some sort of a frost hollow or it lacks UHI...Who knows... Yes its an interesting question... all I can surmise is that there is a lot of cold air drainage into the Manning River Valley from the mountains to the west ? And the no UHI certainly would be a thing.... Sometimes Wikiboxes can be a bit misleading re outlier extremes.... so I had a bit of look and Taree in the last 20 years ( since 2005 ) has recorded 17 mins of 0c and below... so less than 1 such day per winter on average... and only 6 such days in the last 12 years. So those outlier -4c extremes make the place look waaay colder than it actually is generally. Those -4c mins occurred in 2002, 2003 and 2004. In those 3 years there were 7 days, 4 days and 8 days with sub zero mins. Taree old site: Taree Airport site: Town site mins in the winter of 1970:
