reasonable to add 10°C to the 850 mb temperatures to afternoon surface temperatures there? In Australia in summer the standard formula is add 15-17C to get the approximate sea-level temp. As an example, when it got to 43C here the other day, the 850 temp was 26C.

Looking like a mild Barlett Christmas

Looking like I may get a decently cold Christmas Eve and Christmas, after two consecutive with around record-breaking warmth. Maybe even some possibility of frozen precip around Christmas per some model runs!

Forecast is 29/16 (-2/-9 C) with snow. I doubt it will be anything close to that as forecasts for 10 days out are always inaccurate.
As long as the 23rd is dry so we can get to the house we rented without any issue, I want lots of snow.

Yeah, 12C for Christmas Eve here according to weatheronline.
I can remember five White Christmases in the past 25 years (referring to lying snow, not just the Met Office definition of falling snow) which is a good return for us, but it's still been seven years since the last one.

For some reason I can't see any tweets nei links. Anyone else having the same problem? Not here, once or twice I've had problems seeing links on my laptop (which I use Internet Explorer on) that have worked OK on my desktop (Google Chrome) and vice versa, but everything's showing up fine at the moment.

My family celebrates Christmas on the 24th, being European and all. Latest GFS brings the warm air further south, amazingly enough. Compare to the 5C 850hpa temps predicted yesterday, I am now just about sitting on the 20C isotherm. Christmas day itself still looking like a giant polar pile of shit though, but fuck it, that is nothing but a hangover recovery day for me

Ugh, still looks crappy but it's much better than the first one you posted. 22C on Christmas Eve, right when my family from Queensland comes over so you can bet they're going to make a billion comments about the weather

Christmas eve is now looking warm here, perhaps around 30C, but Christmas Day will be polar. In any case, it's a step in the right direction! Christmas has always had shit weather in recent years (bar 2011 and 2016), while NYE was hot. Maybe the same thing this time round?

Hot asf, and I spent the entire night drinking with mates until like 6:30am the next morning. Could be a repeat! Let's hope so.
