Would be atrocious here. F- Same for me too. Luckily it wasn't that extreme here due to the lower latitude and proximity to the southerly sea so I think it ended 3-4°C less cold here. I'm reluctant to give it F- since that's reserved for the Oymyakons of the world, so a standard F will have to do for me! What was Umeå like in 1987, Baba? Any idea?

Not really. 1867 was the record with a -18.5'C mean. Luleå had -18.5'C in 1987 though and Härnösand -16'C. Must've been somewhere between those figures.

Not really. 1867 was the record with a -18.5'C mean. Luleå had -18.5'C in 1987 though and Härnösand -16'C. Must've been somewhere between those figures. My mum says even Eskilstuna was outrageous that month. By the looks of it Örebro seems like a proper nasty job too. Looking at the weather station in Oxelösund however, it was pretty clear that the parts of the Baltic down here that still were ice-free, certainly aided the coastal areas and archipelago and made the month no less severe than a typical Bothnia Bay January even under that cold onslaught. I've seen that 1985 was in many ways worse up there, but perhaps Umeå got luckier than Luleå that January?

D-. Far too cold and boring but livable and at least there’s no rain.

Solid B
It's only really cold in the first half while the rest of the month is typical winter temperatures for low latitude subarctic climates.

E only for the historical aspect. Otherwise totally atrocious.
Completely possible that Turku won't ever experience a month that cold anymore.
edit: or maybe ever is a bit a too dramatic word, but maybe the next 200 years.
