Canberra Hobart Melbourne Adelaide Sydney Perth Brisbane Darwin
CanberraโฅHobart>Melbourne>>>Adelaide>Sydney>>>Perth>>>Brisbane>>>>>>>>>>>>Darwin
Hesitated to choose between Canberra and Hobart, I think Canberra has a good balance of temperatures range without being too extreme in the Australian standard, occasionally having the lows a tad below freezing sounds nice.

Sydney wins.
I don't mind Melbourne and Canberra all that much though. There are better climates than Sydney in in Australia, anyway. My personal favourites would be places such as Denmark (WA) and Port Lincoln (SA) since they're more moderated during summer nights!
That being said, I don't mind Sydney one bit it's definitely A- any way you slice it!

Sophie's Choice. Having to pick between Perth, Sydney, and Adelaide is like having to pick between a Million Dollars, a mansion on the French Riviera, and sleeping with Kelly Macdonald. Impossible to pick. I guess I'll vote Perth so it would have the same number of votes as Sydney

None of these places get four proper seasons so I ought to go with whichever one gives the most "nice" weather, so Sydney.
Hard to beat 17-27C avg highs year-round plus thunderstorms plus sunny winters if you're not that bothered about experiencing a full range of weather IMO.

Easily receives sub-freezing lows and single-digit highs in winter, with regular frost from autumn through to spring, most severe in winter. Canberra's lows are comparable to those of the North Pennines, hitting near its record every year as well. Hot, stormy summers with cool nights are also what make Canberra the most continental of the lot. Canberra, along with Darwin, is easily the stormiest of the Australian major centres (regional centres like Bathurst are certainly stormier, however).

I thought about Canberra because that's the closest to a four-season climate, 12C highs and only a minimal chance of lying snow still looks more like spring to me than winter though. If it can't snow or have properly cold days there's not much point in having a winter at all IMO, it might as well stay T-shirt weather like in Sydney. You say it gets storms but I'm guessing it looks fairly arid for much of the year with that low rainfall, right? Not a fan of the arid look even though I'd still give Canberra a B, it's a pretty decent climate overall.

Australia is already a rather stormy country; the stormiest major centre in an already stormy country would surely cop more than just "gets storms". Most of its rain falls heavily as storms in summer, and lightly as drizzle in winter; unlike Sydney, it can see prolonged cloudy periods in winter. Fog occurs on around 80 days annually, depending on the year (47 fog days that don't clear up until midday). And yes, it does tend to display a rather semi-arid "wheat grass" scenery โ the grass is very alpine-like in nature. Most of Canberra's vegetation is white mountain gum, black poplar, and radiata pine.

Canberra is the best, I might even consider it as an A climate, the only thing that worries me are the record lows in the summer.
