So it would be quite impractical to create a climate battle thread of Russian capitals given that there are 85 federal subjects (if you count Crimea and Sevastopol). However Russia is also split into 8 Federal Districts, each with an administrative center and a presidential plenipotentiary envoy. 1. Central: Moscow2. South: Rostov-on-Don3. Northwest: St. Petersburg4. Far East: Khabarovsk 5. Siberia: Novosibirsk6. Ural: Yekaterinburg7. Volga: Nizhny Novgorod8. North Caucasus: Pyatigorsk Sadly Pyatigorsk has no sunshine data, however a nearby city with a very similar climate does, Nalchik

Have to go with Rostov even though there are a lot better climates in Russia.

Rostov for me too because it's sunnier than Nalchik by some way. Didn't even bother looking at the others lol, I already know they're not going to be my thing.

Khabarovsk is the sunniest with 2,446 hrs vs Rostov's 2,122 hrs. But Khabarovsk also has an average low of −23.5C (−10.3F) in January so there is that.

Yeah, that's a pretty big dealbreaker though lol I'm sure the sun makes some difference to the feel of those winters but that's still unimaginable bone-chilling cold every day for months. I could do Kaliningrad but other than that I wouldn't touch anywhere in Russia other than the south.

Khabarovsk
Since there are no tundra maritime or proper inland climates on this poll, my choice is Khabarovsk for being the most exciting of the lot with its coldest winters.

NovosibirskSince there are no tundra maritime or proper inland climates on this poll, my choice is Novosibirsk for being the most exciting of the lot with its coldest winters. You might want to change that to Khabarovsk. Novosibirsk coldest average low: −20.9C (−5.6F) Khabarovsk coldest average low: −23.5C (−10.3F) Novosibirsk coldest average high: −12.1C (10.2F) Khabarovsk coldest average high: −15.7C (3.7F) Novosibirsk only has a colder record low of −46.3C (−51.3F) versus Khabarovsk's −40.0C (−40F).

Very much is Altho I heard it has a lot of crime so maybe not the best Russian city to live in when it comes to QUality of Life! I very much assume that you'd therefore stick to the palm trees of Sochi To be fair, since I hate cold way more than liking heat, for me Sochi is the one Russian metropolis I'd rate above Nyköping! Sochi is a C+ the rest of Russia are D's or worse. What about your rating of Sochi vs that of Rostov?

Rostov averages a bit warmer than here despite being 5° further north. I still prefer my town over Rostov, sunnier, slightly more comfortable summers and snowier winters. But Rostov is better than the rest

All failures but Rostov-on-Don is the best of a bad bunch.
