So yesterday I made a thread Climate Battle: Russian District Capitals and unsurprisingly Rostov-on-Don won. And even then the other votes went to cities that were in southern regions, the only outlier would be Nizhny Novgorod. So to shake things up I decided to make another climate battle thread but only include capital cities in the southern regions. I will consider the south to be everything south of 50N so the southwest and the southeast will be included for a total of 20 federal subjects, which is much more manageable than the total 85 subjects of Russia. Far Eastern Federal District1. Primorsky Krai: Vladivostok | 4.9C (40.8F) 2. Khabarovsk Krai: Khabarovsk | 2.4C (36.3F) 3. Amur Oblast: Blagoveshchensk | 1.6C (34.9F) 4. Sakhalin Oblast: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk | 2.8C (37F) 5. Jewish Autonomous Oblast: Birobidzhan | 1.9C (35.4F) North Caucasian Federal District6. Republic of Dagestan: Makhachkala | 12.4C (54.3F) 7. Republic of Ingushetia: Magas | 9.02C (48.23F) 8. Kabardino-Balkar Republic: Nalchik | 10C (50F) 9. Karachay-Cherkess Republic: Cherkessk | 9C (48.2F) 10. Republic of North Ossetia-Alania: Vladikavkaz | 9.2C (48.6F) 11. Chechen Republic: Grozny | 10.4C (50.7F) 12. Stavropol Krai: Stavropol | 9.5C (49.1F) Southern Federal District
13. Republic of Adygea: Maykop | 11.82C (53.26F) 14. Republic of Kalmykia: Elista | 9.3C (48.73F) 15. Krasnodar Krai: Krasnodar | 12.1C (53.8F) 16. Astrakhan Oblast: Astrakhan | 10.5C (50.9F) 17. Volgograd Oblast: Volgograd | 8.2C (46.8F) 18. Rostov Oblast: Rostov-on-Don | 9.9C (49.8F) 19. Republic of Crimea: Simferopol | 10.8C (51.4F) 20. Sevastopol Federal City: Sevastopol | 11.79C (53.23F) I know that the international community doesn't recognize that Crimea is a part of Russia, however since it's administrated by Russia I decided to include it.

Vladivostok: Cold winters with plenty of sun and a respectable amount of snowfall. Summers are comfortable with plentiful rainfall and thunderstorms. Can't ask for much more.

Krasnodar is very nice, reminds me of Philly I was about to vote for Krasnodar, but I then decided for Simferopol instead. They are both very similar but Simferopol is sunnier.

Sevastopol, but among non-disputed territories I'd choose either Maykop or Vladikavkaz.

Anything at least close to a tundra maritime ( ET) on that poll? If not, then please find something with the coolest annual mean. There are no ideal inland climates in Russia, so that's already wanked and buggered. Can't be fucked to compare 37 bloody wiki pages..!!

1. Astrakhan 2. Elista 3. Grozny
Those 3 are all B climates. Maybe a B+ for Astrakhan. Simferopol and Rostov are pretty good too.

Maykop is my choice, very similar to nyc, a good 4 seasonal climate. Simferopol and Krasnodar are also very good, the former is a bit on the dry side though.
Even Rostov is decent, very similar to chicago, and Volgograd looks similar to a dry version of here.
The far eastern federal district ones are far too cold though. Probably muggy in summer as well i imagine? Vladivostok is awful for its latitide, i'd prefer Duluth over it probably.

Krasnodar for being the warmest. Simferopol has more sun but also less rain and cooler temps.
I wish Sochi was an option though.

Sochi would definitely be a great climate. If it was in there it would win hands down.

Birobidzhan. Glorious winters and summers aren't super hot.

Thank you for including the annual mean. That automatically restricted my options to the four coldest ones without even having to look at the others (though even without that, it's fairly clear that the Siberian ones will be superior to the non-Siberian ones).
In the end Birobidzhan wins thanks to its epic winters, though Blagoveshchensk is a close second.
