Possibly a normal Autumn here. We're in desperate need of some rain though, so I'm hoping for a series of severe east coast lows.

We need a wet May, I haven't seen one ever. They're always dry for some weird reason.

It's been a while since some decent rainfall, during a supposed La Nina.

Looking at the forecast for Perth the other day, if that's an autumn, I'm Pinocchio

Just returned home after a few weeks in Aussie,
What has struck me the most, is that there are no cicadas. Not one -this should be peak time for the noisy beggars, but they're completely absent. I've got a theory that they respond to future seasonal trends, rather than current or past ones, so I'm not sure what this would mean....... although it might just be that ground moisture levels are more conductive to burrowing, than could typically be expected at this time of the year.
Crickets and Katydids are much louder than one would expect for early autumn though - they don't generally get noisy until late autumn/winter ... most unusual
A lot of rain damage as well - drove past places with 2-3 metres of new silt, and car sized boulders sitting on the flats. Must have been some real deluges in some spots.

heavy rain for the Hawkes Bay today, with news reports/civil defence mentioning 150mm in two hours - I flew to the west of there today, and there were some big thunderheads and anvils towards that direction.
A chance of another cyclone heading towards NZ next week -might get some flight insurance on my budget flight back to Aussie next week... just in case.

This is one CLOUDY fucken start to Autumn, I'd say! Nothing but southerly maritime stratocrap, fog, drizzle and teen-figure highs since the past few days over this region (especially "Sunny" Corner). Next week looks promising, however—by early autumnal standards, that is!

Clouds? What are those? Nothing but that big yellow death ray here for forever The sun here is rediculously intense. No pollution, no particulates, no haze, high sun angle, you can actually feel your skin being cooked if there is no breeze, which is a running gag here as the temp increases. One full day in the sun here will turn your skin red. A nice wet day would be welcome, but no hope of that. Queensland as per usual, getting massive rainfalls all over, even inland in places like Mt Isa.

Strong sun is when skin will turn red in 30 minutes - a full day of that sort of sun, is going to make ensure people remember to slip, slop, slap.

Finally fucken clear! 7.8° C and feels like 5.3° C (1,075 m AMSL at Sodwalls, NSW); rather chilly. The frost season is certainly nearing.

Already reports of light ground frosts here, although nights around Motueka haven't been colder than 5C here since I've been back. Further south has seen nights around 0C-2C
Most obvious difference back here compared to Aussie, is the dews - one could be forgiven for thinking there has been a light shower over the last two nights. Also a mugginess to the air by mid/late morning, even though the dew points and temperatures are modest.

Pretty uninteresting pressure chart tbh. Quite good weather though sunny and hot and no wind, in Sydney anyway.

Winds forecast at up to 130 km/h forecast for Auckland, right about the time I'm due to fly out of there tomorrow. Heavy rain forecast as well -glad I decided to spend the extra $24 on travel insurance.
