Darwin spent most of the afternoon at 24/25C today due to a storm, usually this only happens in a cyclone or deep monsoon.

Not the warmest day in Melbourne, but it's summer cold, so there's still plenty of folks in shorts, short dresses, t-shirts, singlets etc.

Pretty hot all over. Except Perth and Darwin which are notorious for cold weather this time of year

I hope so, 39.8C is a tough ask, but the winds will be very strong, should push through to the coast.

Temperature's been creeping up all day, slowly passing the mid thirties, current highest in OH of 38.4C, about half an hour ago. Everywhere in the Sydney Basin getting to at least 37C by the looks of it. Sydney Airport has been the hottest so far with 40.5C.
We were looking at a significant rain event during the week, but it's been downgraded, and will now hit further north in the Hunter. Maitland could get >100mm in three days.

What is this "remarkable late season heat" in the SE they speak of? This "remarkable heat" consisted of a 30.4C and 38.3C day (nowhere near a record high), that's it. Melbourne had a single 32C day among a sea of low-mid 20's. Adelaide topped out at 30.1C lmfao. Ah hang on, it was a Shitney penroid thing, ofcourse, a'la Dickcember 2017.

The coldest documented temperature in the Central West so far; Lithgow (Bathurst comes second). Was only expecting for it to hit 6° C, but instead plummeted to 2.6° C..!! Subarctique Extreme:
