Found this climate thanks to Sir Fuckwit Cambium (he posted a twitter video saying it snowed in San Diego when it really was just sleet...and in town of Julian which is at 4000' /1300m amsl). www.city-data.com/forum/51164402-post3244.htmlIt's a D+ for me. Those winters are too warm despite averaging more snow than even here and summers are way too dry. But, its comfortable at least.

LOL. How typical. Reminiscent of his "20s in the Gulf States" nonsense when he's talking about 29 F in Huntsville, Alabama. Or "snow in the Middle East" and it's snow in Iran or something. Idiot.
This climate is quite good for the region, but still leaves a lot to be desired. I'll give it a D because of the relatively goodness to the region.

It's weird, where does all that snow come from with those kind of winter highs and with the peak in March?
I'll give this a B-, it gives me my snow fix, is relatively comfortable year-round and it's only really dry for half the year, plus sunshine's probably really high.

Cold wet winters and boring stormless summers. D+

D+. Miserable winters, no storms, stable records. Good for the region though.

Maybe precipitation is associated with cold there? Could also be isolated big snow events increasing the averages.

I will give it a solid C. Nothing to write home about and there are MUCH better options in California.

If you assume a snow:water ratio of 10:1 only about 10% of January precipitation is in the form of snow.

B+, that's actually a pretty good climate! It just takes a bit too long to warm up properly.

The video Cumbium posted shows quite remarkable amount of snow for the latitude and elevation. I'm sure it melts quickly though.

I've known about it for several years. C+, too warm (but definitely the best so far south in CA!).
How does it have a record low of -1C in May and yet manage to average 1.5cm of snow? That seems a little unrealistic. Maybe there were one or two massive snowfalls on the 1st of May or something.

The video Cumbium posted shows quite remarkable amount of snow for the latitude and elevation. I'm sure it melts quickly though. I'd guess it's capable of big snows when the right combination of cold and wet happens. But it doesn't happen often. Mountains by Los Angeles are similar I think.

B- Needs more summer moisture and thunderstorms, and winter is on the mild side. Great for SoCal tho.

D. Winters are great overall, especially with the high snow totals. Summer temperatures are good but there's nowhere near enough rain.

Solid A from me, one of the best (if not the best) climates in SoCal. Near perfect temperatures and precipitation pattern. Only thing holding this back from an A+ is the late-season snow and seasonal lag. I also maded an updated Julian 1991-2020 climobox. The old one used a 1893-2020 PoR for snowfall.

B-. Loses points for the horrific seasonal lag and muted record highs.

C+, not bad. I'm assuming it's very sunny, which makes up for the cool nights. Probably gets very few storms though. One or two snow days per year isn't much, but it's better than nothing.

Solid B. Acceptable to good in all seasons but not ideal
