Even Stockholm can be uncomfortably warm in the summer. Walking around a city in 24'C sunshine isn't pleasant unless you're wearing shorts.

Missed two Edinburgh photos. Supposedly the most photographed street in Scotland; well-deserved. city at night in the fog =============================== Scottish Highlands. First you stop at the whisky distillery locals. Called "hairy coos" close-up [/img]
cloudy morning like every morning. Low clouds starting to lift. The warm dry air mass led to cooler, cloudy weather in eastern Scotland. Brought a cool breeze and cloud from the North Sea. Western Scotland was warmer. peak still in the clouds finally see the highlands Glencoe gathering sounds unpleasant. Was partly the inspiration for a grisly Game of Thrones scene close-up of Ben Nevis. Looks more alpine than the White Mountains of New Hampshire even if not taller. Impressive north face. Was told we were very lucky to see Ben Nevis not in the clouds. Told it's out of the clouds 1/8th of the time; Mt. Washington is out of the clouds about 1/3 rd of the time; gives an idea of how they compare sunshine-wise not so close-up view; mountains looked very different from home with the less rounded top and much more grassland. Felt almost western. lot of snow left high up Loch Ness on Loch Ness small gorge some forest were lush and looked like they had diverse botany; others were tree plantations of conifers. Cairnogorms were much less forested, looked kinda bleak. I expected the grasslands to be a lusher green. Forest looked like it was close to a temperate rainforest cute town of pitlochry. A store sold whiskey ice cream, which I didn't try coming back to Edinburgh. Fog again

Love those highland photos neiMountains seem much taller than they actually are, love the bareness, grassy areas and snow caps. The Adirondacks and Appalachians are twice as tall but are much less scenic IMO.

Nice pics nei ! You were lucky with the weather. This Glencoe mountain looks quite tall. The pics bring back memories. Saw my first midnight glow (nautical twilight all night long) while camping near Sronphadruig lodge (how'd you pronounce that FFS?). Rather surreal when seen for the first time.
