Paris, France: Sunrise: 8:43 am Sunset: 5:01 pm That would be 6pm with permanent CEST! With almost 10am sunrises though... How's the DST abolishment proposal going?

If we're lucky they'll forget about it. 10 am - 6 pm daylight FFS. Am I the only one to see the retardation of that all?

rozenn Hopefully it would be permanent CET. Double DST in winter (well, solar-wise) is silly to say the least... Yes, you get sunset times a la tropical regions but sunrise times a la more northern latitudes... Pitch black at 9am in order to avoid 6pm darkness at 49°N in mid-winter, really? Like Brest would get past 10 sunrises with past 6pm sunsets... That's a later sunrise than current Tórshavn!

I think earlier sunrises in summer are pointless so in favor of DST and I'm happy with the current times in winter. I don't think the voters thought this through. 10 am sunrises in order not to switch hours twice a year? Gimme a break.

It’s now noticeable lighter at 4:30pm but we are still in severe derp daylight time. Even when the (very late) clock change comes at the end of March sunsets will still be quite early for my liking at 7:30pm. There’s a long way to go yet

greysrigging Darwin has a skewed solar noon (almost 1pm) with a half-hour time zone... __________________________________________ Pekanbaru, Indonesia 6 Jan 2021 Solar midnight: 00:19 Astronomical dawn: 05:02 Nautical dawn: 05:28 Civil dawn: 05:54 Sunrise: 06:17 Morning golden hour ends: 06:46 Solar noon: 12:20 Evening golden hour starts: 17:53 Sunset: 18:22 Civil dusk: 18:45 Nautical dusk: 19:11 Astronomical dusk: 19:37

I am not a fan of the half our time zone..... should be the full hour by longitude.

Actually by eliminating the half-hour offset (using +9 time zone, same as Tokyo) Darwin would be closer to "natural" solar time (sun highest point/solar noon would be closer to 12:00 on average). Adelaide going +9 would result in 11:45 solar noon average (standard/winter time) instead of 12:15 using current time zone. Same offset from natural solar time, but with a more rounded time zone. Darwin is closer to the 135°E line (+9) than 142.5°E line (current +9.5)
