Both are mediterranean but one can get major freezes, but still has narrower temps and cooler nights. Messina on the other hand gets dry, almost tropical-like summers, but with wet winters that keeps the vegetation "up to date"! It is far wetter and therefore a completely different climate to Reggio Calabria on the other side of the strait. Laguna Beach is in Orange County in Southern California located in between Los Angeles and San Diego. It has somewhat of a hybrid between the official stations for those two places. For me Laguna Beach is the winner. Easier to handle summers and winters would be more exciting with warm and cold spells.

Messina. Not even a competition.
The Med sea is truly a thing of beauty, Messina is at the same latitude as Melbourne LMAO and Melbourne is a polar shithole compared to this sensational climate.

Messina vs Renmark then? Or does it fall short. I think Messina should receive quite a few thunderstorms in shoulder seasons at least. Probably one or two big ones in mid-summer too!

Messina over Renmark any day. Those summer lows (and the year round lows), and the record lows, just cannot be beat. The lows here give you fucking hypothermia as soon as summer ends, right up until summer begins. And honestly, I am far from happy with the summer lows aswell No doubt gets vastly more storms aswell

Laguna Beach because of the nice winter highs. But what's up with those absurdly cold record lows for the summer months?

Laguna Beach because of the nice winter highs. But what's up with those absurdly cold record lows for the summer months? Cold ocean water, I suspect winds from the mountains with almost storm intensity and probably coming from a below-average spring.

That's weird when Longyearbyen has a higher record low for July haha...

That's weird when Longyearbyen has a higher record low for July haha... Lol yeah. Although Longyearbyen is infinitely more oceanic and has a low sun angle of 13Β° I think overnight on summer solstice, so solar radiation influences Longyearbyen significantly all summer long, even more than it does in TromsΓΈ for example. I think quite a few of these Arctic Canadian places also struggle to record July frosts even though they're much more continental than Longyearbyen. At a certain point at sea level, the 24/7 sun cover with decent angles halt frosts for that timeframe. It does exist all the way up though. For example, Orick some 70 km north of Eureka recorded -8Β°C in April. That's something you'd associate with maybe New York City or Seoul, but certainly not California's coastline.

Laguna Beach. I'm not having 24C lows. Laguna Beach because of the nice winter highs. But what's up with those absurdly cold record lows for the summer months? It's California. I believe there was a thread on C-D trying to figure out how it happens. It extends up the whole coast: Crescent CityEurekaUkiahFort BraggHalf Moon BaySanta CruzMontereyMorro BaySanta Maria (Thunder98/Ryan/WhateverOtherNamesHeUsed Land) Ventura (gets warmer as you pass LA, but still very cold for latitude and coastal location) OceansideMystery to me, but I definitely like the low lows. I wish KC had that!

Laguna has far better precipitation and record lows, Messina has much better temps.
Just checked, Laguna hasnβt had a sub-10 C high since 1949 and Messina just had a 4.8 C high last year.
Messina wins slightly. D vs. D-.

Messina for a shorter dry season and more thunderstorms. Winters there suck though.
