Ranfurly. Both are pretty drab, but Buxton is too temperate for my liking.

The Ranfurly record low was consistent with readings around the region. Intense cold pooling after heavy snowfalls.

Both are absolutely abhorrent oceanic climates, but I will go with Ranfurly for being sunnier and drier. Anyone who chooses Fuxton is batshit crazy.

Probably Ranfurly if it has dry frosts.
Just realised how terrible the September record high is in Buxton. 25.5c can't be right?

The only Buxton vote was a sympathy vote. There are some places I wouldn't choose over Buxton, but Ranfurly is not one of them.

Ranfurly for being more interesting, but both are okay.

I prefer Ranfurly. Sunnier and warmer summers.

Ranfurly for being drier and likely sunnier year round.

Ranfurly for being warmer year-round, but both climates are crap.

My silly youngest son and 2 of his equally silly mates thought June 2015 would be a good time to tour the South Island in a campervan. All 3 of the dills born and bred Darwin kids with not a clue about cold temps and the dangers ( hypothermia ) thereof. The were camped out in Twizel the night the temp dropped to -18c or -19c. About a meter of snow in the McKenzie and Otago districts. They took some epic pics before almost succumbing to hypothermia. In fact my son ended up in hospital in Queenstown with cold related illness. I wasn't that sympathetic.....lol ! www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/polar-blast-sees-temperatures-plummet#:~:text=The%20coldest%20temperature%20on%20record,15degC%20at%2010pm%20on%20Monda

Ranfurly (even though it's bit of a toss up) - Both of them got winters way too chilly for my liking but Ranfurly summers are a little warmer. I'm not feeling both of their climates - I need some summer heat and humidity

Ranfurly because of better variability and cooler winters.
Edit: From Weatherbase. Buxton.
