1 June is here and that means wintertime! Vostok Station -70°C season is here, but something tells me that won't be the main feature in this thread

It was actually colder at the airport overnight than on my PWS. 1.8C vs 2.0C which is not a bad way to start winter

-70 C season in Vostok has been around since like late March.... Must've been a cold wave since I'm going by the averages...

End of March averages -57/-65 in Vostok, so a -70 C low at that time of year is hardly anything unusual.
Even in June averages are -61/-69, temperatures are pretty consistent from late March until late September there.

Outstanding weather the past few days, cloudy cool and drizzly. Everything is looking noticeably greener, and I love it. A very welcome change from the seemingly endless sun of the past twelve months.

A cold start to june so far, showers coming through tomorrow with 2-4mm expected. Then temperatures will stay in the high teens to low twenties for much of the week until another front comes through on sunday. Really getting into the cycle of winter now.

Snow will fall down to Bathurst, Blakney Creek, Bigga, Bowning, Crooked Corner, Goulburn, Gunning, Peelwood, Reids Flat, Tuena, Woodstock, Wyangala & Yass (490-665 m AMSL; 33°-34° S) on Sunday, with perhaps even Canberra—usually sheltered from snowfall by the Brindabella Ranges—receiving snowfall:

Here we had snow on the ground for almost a week which is somewhat unusual. Also unusual was that the snow didn't start as rain, which, combined with the cold temperatures, was the reason the snow lasted for so long. We had a streak of 3 days where the temperature stayed below 0°C/32°F and a streak of 7 days where the mean temperature stayed below 0. Now it's super mild. Yesterday the average was almost 10°C/50°F. Pretty much all the snow is gone.
The forecast is now saying that we'll be getting quite a lot of rain but there could be another pulse of cold air from Antarctica and we could be getting snow again.

Had the coldest morning out of any capital city today, tied with Canberra at 3.0°C. Canberra almost always takes that title outright, so that was nice.

We were doing really well for a time, max of just 12.4C until just about twenty minutes ago. Would've been the coldest day since 2016. Then it warmed up, top of 14.3C now and it might still go up

Will be very interesting and be the most raw outbreak of the year if it happens. The coast will get slammed, but showers and storms will no doubt evaporate by the time they get here. It follows a warm period here, with 850 temps up to 12C, so temps in the low, maybe mid 20's before this outbreak.

We are due for a subtropique 16°C before this, but I'm definitely more interested in the cold
