Tavelsjö had its first hard freeze this night. Led me to a trip down memory lane, on this day in 2013 Örebro got an amazingly-early snow premiere in an otherwise mild autumn

It seems Lommaren wasn't wrong in that it was a strange phenomenon. As it so happens, it was actually Sahara dust that managed to get all the way up to Stockholm

We've finally started to be able to see the milky way now. During summer, it's too bright, and we pretty haven't had any clear nights since we started getting true nights until now. I actually haven't seen the milky way before because I've always lived in light polluted Umeå, but here in Tavelsjö it's definitely visible with the naked eye. This is taken with my phone camera (The link cable for my DSLR is at my Dad's so can't share any of the pics I took using that). Please ignore the blotch in the corner. I stood to close to my phone during the picture-taking...

We had some pretty nice lights tonight as well. I really need to find a cable for the DSLR...

Hard freeze tonight. Umeå Airport (frosthollow) managed -6.4'C! Other stations nearby stopped at -3 to -4'C. How come there's never frost underneath things? Does it really stay above freezing underneath a trampoline or ia it the humidity that gets blocked? What's going on here??? Dandelions still alive. For some reason. These are early summer/late spring flowers and normally disappear in July and August. Then they reemerge in October. Last year they were still around in November.

It may be a polar wasteland climate, but there's no doubt that it does produce some great views.

We don't get skies like that, too much light pollution. And our frosts usually melt quickly after sunrise, leaving behind damp, swampy ground everywhere.

Some images from Trondheim today sunday Oct 22. Sunny and around 10C when I took these images using my DSLR. All colors are straight from the camera and no filter or anything like that. Where is the volleyball net? Chestnut in front of that fence, while inside is mostly maples, European beech, Larch. A random roundabout Compare this with yesterday, up in our city forest /hills, (Bymarka), around 400 m asl. Up inn this area there is no -Elms -Oaks -Maples -Ash -Chestnut -Rhododendron or hydrangea -Blach alder etc etc Even the pines are a different type, the mountain pines - shorter, with more branches lower on the trunk etc. Above ca 350-400 m asl, there is generally less shelter and more windy than at lower altitudes in the Trondheim area, and this comes in addition to cooler summers due to altitude. So vegetation zones and climate zones start to be more compressed above this altitude. Also, bogs up here must be frost hollows, so the frost-free (air frost) season on these bogs must be much shorter than down in the city.

Tavelsjö doesn't have any wild trees with leaves anymore, only a few planted ones. I wish the growing season was longer, but hey, at least the sun is shining. Almost all wild trees in Umeå are bare as well. Most plantes trees aren't though since they have southern genes. Still completely green birches. Must be from France or something. Most planted birches seem to be peaking though, with many past their peak. Wild maples are pretty yellow.

Tavelsjö is actually incredibly beautiful. I always thought I liked the Västerbotten coast better but I'm not so sure now
