Pretty much every single fan disliked this idea, the backlash was so intense that every single club pulled out. I think they expected some level of backlash, but nothing as extreme as it ended up being I think threats from government and all kinds of sanctions from UEFA and FIFA is what made them back down. I heard on the radio that club owners like the Glazers expected a bad reaction but didn't care, and secretly would have liked their players to have been banned from international games. The point was to create a system that gloryhunting fans from outside of Europe wanted to see. To hell with local fans, who now only represent a tiny minority of the sport's fanbase.

And I read comments from Indian fans that they don't want any Super League, because they respect the traditions and fan culture of the English clubs they support. And an American commentator said that they follow the European clubs, because it's the opposite of the American franchise model, and thus different and interesting.

Lol, Florentino Pรฉrez still isn't done with this idea. He gave a speech where he sounded like the villain at the end of a superhero movie setting the stage for a sequel.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus need this. Barcelona in particular have enormous debts of over a billion. Maybe their plan should be called the Super Debt League.

^Doubt any fans would buy those kits even if they were free. Glad to see the collective power of fans+pundits of European football coming together to stop the creation of an American-style franchise league. I wish leagues here in north America (MLS/NHL/NBA, etc) followed the European style with promotion and relegation even though it'll likely never happen.

Inter on the edge of the title after winning 1-0 (again), while Juve had another frustrating draw to Fiorentina
Juve might not have to worry about CL repercussions as they might not even make it in the first place. They could legit finish outside the top 4

Really tight race in La Liga. 4 teams at the top separated by just 3 points. Anyone can win it now

Juveโs nine-year reign in Serie A officially ends. Killed off by the same man who started it; Antonio Conte
In Portugal, a non-Porto/Benfica team might win it for the first time in 20 years

Juveโs nine-year reign in Serie A officially ends. Killed off by the same man who started it; Antonio Conte In Portugal, a non-Porto/Benfica team might win it for the first time in 20 years Thatโs one of the big problem with the European model. The same teams win every year. American sports have teams with really good stretches but anyone has a chance and you can easily rebuild and get good. Must be no fun being a fan of some random soccer team that has no chance with the same 2 teams winning 20 years in a row.

Juventus's streak is totally unprecedented in Italian football, so this is not the norm by any means. For example England has 5 different champions in the last 10 years.
While dynasties happen, they are most often do because that particular team is just so good, and would win even under an American model.

Which I suppose is the European equivalent of the World Series, or Superbowl. Also, I've never seen 5000/1 outsiders win the top prize over there, as has happened in the Premier League. Under the socialised American system that team wouldn't have even had the opportunity to qualify for the competition. Some mediocre franchise would have made up the numbers instead.

I've been keeping track of this and it sounds like Ek is a huge arsenal fan. Unfortunately I doubt the Kroenke's will sell though.

Hopefully Juve has a collapse, allowing other teams to compete. The past decade has been really boring, even with Sarriโs Napoli coming close Inter have a ton of old players so I donโt think there will be an Inter monopoly in the future

I hope Atalanta pulls off a win tbh. They have a great squad and itโs amazing how despite not being wealthy, all of their top players want to stay. Duvan Zapata, Robin Gosens, etc., could easily go to bigger teams
