Having a better result than Scotland has put us ahead of them for a home playoff spot, as it stands. Keeping hold of this is really important not just for home advantage, but due to the likely quality of the team we'll face.

The FIFA ranking is very static these days. Finland is still #58 though we have been in the Euros and played in general quite with good results.

What have Belgium done to be ranked #1 for so long? They've been ridiculously consistent. While they haven't won any major tournaments, they consistently play well. In comparison France was very inconsistent after winning the World Cup. Italy missed 2018, and are in danger of missing 2022 as well. Also Belgium's losses came against Euro-winning Italy, and World Series-winning France. So when they do lose, it's against highly ranked teams, which doesn't affect the coefficient much. Losing against shitty sides Luxembourg or Gibraltar would destroy your coefficient in comparison |

You're 40th in Elo which is more reliable www.eloratings.net/2021Ecuador is 16th in Elo, but somehow doesn't even make the top-40 in the official Fifa rankings. Which is bs, they've been comfortably the 3rd best team on the continent during the World Cup qualifying process |
