May've been my favourite grand final since 2006, really exciting game with everything going for it: a tense ending, a good comeback, a few lead changes, couple of great goals and a few excellent marks. Crisp Mayonnaise (Chris Mayne) had an excellent game for the pies alongside adams, goldsack, howe, pendlebury and mason cox in the 2nd half...but the eagles were too much. It's ridiculous how much the eagles' second tier players have stepped up this year. Still, congrats collingwood and eagles for getting that far and battling in one of the best grand finals of the modern era.

Nah, I wouldn't be risking it. I got the same email but for $900k a year, and I deduced that it wasn't worth it, for some reason.

Fasolo was injured for most of this year right? And couldn't get his place back in the forward line cos your forwardline was hell good this year, I think he'll be good at carlton as their 2nd/3rd best forward; might kick 30 goals.

Did you see those rule changes? The 6x3 rule is interesting, people don't seem too happy about it as they feel it's unnecessary. Hands in the back one is interesting too.
The one I like is that you don't have to kick to yourself in the goal square.

I always love the kicking to yourself in the goalsquare, adds a unique rule to the game even though it's a pretty useless feature. It does signal to the umpires that you are playing on though and there may be a few confusing moments next year involving this rule.
The one rule i like quite a lot is the rule involving prior opportunity for ruckmen after throw-ins from the boundary line. So a ruckman doesnt have to tap it, they can mark it and play on; previously if they marked it and were instantly tackled it would be holding the ball; now he can grab the ball and has a normal amount of time to dispose of it.

Rule change due to the rise of players like Gawn and Grundy changing the game.
Scully to the Hawks, didn't see that one coming. Not like the Hawks need another star midfielder.

Hello all! I am going to be going through every team alphabetically, giving a re-cap on their 2018 season, their trades, draft and predictions for 2019. After this I will do an updated ladder with approximate wins/losses next to each team and some analysis for each week when the season starts.
2018 Re-Cap
Place: 12th Wins: 12 Losses: 10 Percentage: 104.1% Best Brownlow: Rory Laird- 19 votes Captain: Taylor Walker Coach: Don Pyke
A disappointing year for the crows with everything that worked in previous years (particularly 2017) not clicking together. Their forward line struggled with consistency and injuries plagued the whole team for much of the season. Pre-season woes of an awful training camp also surrounded the club throughout the year.
Best Players in 2018: Josh Jenkins- yes he has an easy job, sit in the box and wait for the ball to come to his hands. But Jenkins had a good year none-the-less, expanded into ruck more throughout the year and provided a spark in a forward line where gears weren't clicking. 46 goals and 27 behinds is a fine effort for a man playing against some of the best defenders in the league. Rory Laid- continued his stellar form from 2017, averaging 35+ disposals for much of the season. His role as an aggressive backman with elite disposal of the ball puts him up there in the best 5 defenders in the league. Matt Crouch- not as good as 2017 but a very solid year for the midfielder, plenty of disposals and a solid amount of tackles this season. Bryce Gibbs- another good season from Gibbs, after his transfer from Carlton in late 2017 he showed why he was needed at the club. Bringing his intensity and workman-like behaviour to the club he bought some great consistency throughout the season especially when many of his teammates were injured.
Worst Players/Disappointments: Taylor Walker- injured and criticised by many in the media, Walker struggled to perform throughout the season outside of his first few games. 26 goals and 17 behinds is simply not enough for a centre half forward and the captain of the Adelaide Football Club. Eddie Betts- failed to spark or provide his usually frequent moments of brilliance; in 2018 he seemed tired and slow. Time will tell but hopefully he can get back to his best in 2019.
Grade for 2018: D
2017's grand finalists were a huge chance at winning it all in 2018 but stumbled and fell at every hurdle. Despite finishing with a 12 win, 10 loss season; most view this as a lost chance for the crows. Injuries (at times 10-12 players on their list were injured) destroyed their hopes of players finding consistency. Injuries to key players such as Taylor Walker, Brodie Smith and Brad Crouch only added to this difficulty to present a consistent team week by week.
Trades: Trading out Mitch McGovern to Carlton is a great choice; personally I don’t see McGovern as a very good forward, maybe as a 3rd or 4th forward but he doesn't have the consistency. Tyson Stengel from Richmond could be a replacement for Betts when he retires; a small, agile and (supposedly) very fast forward is what the Crows want.
Draft: Don't know much but they fucked over Carlton which was good banter.
Predictions for 2019: A noticeable improvement, with less injuries and a forwardline that clicks may give the crows a chance of serious finals contention. I am still not so sure, 2018 was a year when nothing seemed to work and I don't believe they will be back to their best this year. They could really finish anywhere from 4th to 12th, I'm going to put them in 9th; looking to fight for a finals spot but missing out by percentage or one game. Somewhere around 11-12 wins with a consolidated team, a firing forwardline and continued great efforts from the backline will sure to be a positive result for the Crows.

He wasn't awful, he just didn't have any amazing moments or any real consistency. afltables.com/afl/stats/players/E/Eddie_Betts.html Scroll down to this year (very bottom), you can see he played alright in the first few rounds then from rounds 13-21 he didn't do much at all.

Brisbane Lions
2018 Re-Cap
Place: 15th Wins: 5 Losses: 17 Percentage: 89.1% Best Brownlow: Dayne Beams (ooff)- 18 votes Captain: Dayne Zorko (as of late 2018) Coach: Chris Fagan
A weird year for Brisbane although they finished a lowly 15th they had a great percentage for the developmental stage they're in; were competitive in most games they played no matter the opposition, and beat Hawthorn twice! For most supporters, 2018 was a successful year with young talent becoming known across the league and good players slowly turning into great players.
Best Players: Dayne Beams- the evergreen Beams stayed at his best throughout 2018 with an average of 29 disposals/game, 3 tackles/game and nearly 6 clearances. Unfortunately he was traded to Collingwood at the end of the season. Dayne Zorko- starting the season off slow; Zorko exploded in the 2nd half to average 21 disposals/game, be the 2nd highest goalscorer with 26.18 and average just over 7 tackles per game. Eric Hipwood- showed what he was capable of in his second season; is still slowly progressing from "baby giraffe" body shape to "full fledged full forward" but starting to show signs of being one of the best tall forwards in the competition. A great tally of 37.27 to his name over 22 games. Harris Andrews- surely a future all australian full back; made his name known all over the media before he was knocked out by Jeremy Cameron halfway through the season. Returned at the end and back to his great form. Mitch "Professional Fortnite Player" Robinson- now a veteran, Robinson played his aggressive style with ease and was able to move forward and back throughout the season kicking 11.7 and averaging 21 disposals per game. Luke Hodge- pretty good this season; although in his mid 30s the 4 time premiership veteran was a rock in defence and I assume gave the youngsters some great advice/mentoring.
Worst Players: Honestly I don't really know, all I know is Lester isn't good at playing (but a great leader and is why he stays at the club) and McStay is sometimes called "McSpray" due to his inaccurate kicking.
Grade for 2018: B
For their position and the fact they nearly had a percentage of 90%...i'll give them a B. Just need to work on getting over the line in games and they'll be a solid middle tier club.
Trades: Dayne Beams to Collingwood- lost their best midfielder Lachie Neale from Fremantle- gained one of the competitions best and underrated midfielders, will excel with a young midfield around him.
Draft: No idea, looking at it now they didn't get anyone well known.
Predictions for 2019: They'll rise into the middle table; probably not making finals but looking to be dangerous against the top teams. 9-11 wins will be a pass mark, and a percentage over 100%. Anything more than that is a great success. As long as the younger players progress and promise starts to bring results; Brisbane will soon become a great team.
