2019 OFFICIAL LADDER PREDICTION
1) Richmond 2) Melbourne 3) Collingwood 4) West Coast 5) Essendon 6) Adelaide 7) GWS 8) Western Bulldogs 9) North Melbourne 10) Hawthorn 11) Brisbane 12) Geelong 13) Fremantle 14) Sydney 15) Port Adelaide 16) St Kilda 17) Carlton 18) Gold Coast
Brownlow: Lachie Neale
Premier: Richmond
Coleman: Ben Brown (72 goals)
Rising Star: Sam Walsh (Carlton)
Players to watch: Sam Walsh- the number one draft pick is bound to show some flair after his excellent pre-season form; hopefully he has some consistent form and a highlight reel by the end of the season. Jesse Hogan- let's hope he can shake aside his mental issues and show Fremantle while they tried so hard to get him. Tom Dodee- the young Crow defender should continue to mature and become a very good player after his debut season in 2018. Paul Ahern- will become a star player (I hope) as he begins to rise up the ranks of North Melbourne's already stacked inside midfield; see him possibly moving into the backline to rack up disposals and not compete too much with the already consolidated inside midfield.

Carlton vs Richmond Q1 0.1 (1) 5.4 (34) Q2 4.4 (28) 7.8 (50) Q3 8.8 (56) 10.9 (69) Q4 9.10 (64) 14.13 (97)
Final Scores, Carlton (9.10 64) def by Richmond (14.13 97)
Summary
A rollercoaster game and an interesting way to start the season! At first glance it appeared as a chance for Richmond to display their new forwardline and test some new strategies on last year's worst team; until quarter time that was the case with Richmond dominating the Blues with superb pressure; ball movement and 2 goals from new full forward Tom Lynch. Something clicked at the quarter time break for Carlton; a sense of ferocity developed quickly with hard tackling, improved ball control and some excellent plays through the corridor. This push by the Blues was lead by veterans and youngsters alike as nearly everyone tried their very best to get Carlton; Thomas, Cripps, Newman, Plowman, Simpson, Murphy, Ed Curnow and Walsh were the standouts during the 2nd and 3rd quarters. Compared to most of the last year; when good players stood out, today the poorer players stood out which is a good sign for the developing team. These players include Jacob Weitering who looked out of place, confused and very slow, and Charlie Curnow who had barely any impact on the game. The best for Richmond were Lambert, Short, Grimes, Nankervis (for periods), Cotchin and Martin. A shock injury occured for key defender Alex Rance who landed awkwardly on his knee in the 3rd quarter and left the game with a suspected MCL or ACL. In the end Richmond kicked away with their now signature "destroy everyone in the 4th quarter" technique; despite this it was an entertaining game as most stages and provided some great moments including good speckies (jump on someone else back to catch the ball) from Reiwoldt and Cotchin.
Team notes: Carlton: a good showing from most players; to get back from 40 points down in the early 2nd quarter to 12 late in the 3rd term is an impressive achievement. Scoring was low and 2 of their 3 big key forwards in C.Curnow and J.McGovern failed to fire well and seemed the clumsy only for young upcoming McKay to bring some good highlights with 2.1 and 6 marks. Carlton's defence- aside from Weitering- looked solid, Nick Newman is a welcome addition bringing pace, agility and long rebound kicks out of defence. Thomas, Simpson and Jones were at their usual best alongside Murphy who spent decent periods in the backline as a link-up player. Out of the defence they looked good in the 2nd and 3rd quarters with generally fluid movement down the wings or corridor; if their forwardline was fully firing it would've been interesting to see how close they could've gotten.
Richmond: opposite to Carlton the players showed great polish and clean disposal in the 1st and 4th quarters. All of the usual suspects chipped in; no one really carrying the team similar to last year but a very good team effort. During the 2nd and 3rd quarter however possession and disposal were sloppy and movement was slow under the surprisingly strong pressure of Carlton, some moments went against the tide but most of the time they were left to defend for long stretches of the game. In the 3rd quarter Alex Rance landed awkwardly and left the ground with a suspect ACl or MCL injury which could spell trouble for Richmond's defence. Overall they looked a bit inconsistent and tired but were able to get through it in the 4th quarter. Richmond will have to play much better if they have any chance in round 2 against Collingwood.

Can't be too fussed by that.
Geelong were too good for adelaide and adelaide's forwardline once again misfired for the most part.
