going up the Hudson again. Did this ride 2 weeks ago, so didn't bother take as many photos of a lot of the lower part of the ride. Managed to get further north and nab Bear Mountain in the bike ride. Nicely decorated bicycle, early morning Brooklyn. On November 1st crossing the East River early morning streets full of high schoolers haze and clouds up the Hudson, guessing I'm around 100th street crossing the Hudson on the west (New Jersey) side, looking south looking north waterfalls in the Palisades another waterfall NY state border looking back south yellow leaves nice bike path along the Hudson between Nyack and Haverstraw some local cyclists more foliage Haverstraw, NY. Quisqueya sports club. ¿Qué? Hudson just north of Haverstraw starting to cloud over, a little before 3 decided to bike up Bear Mountain. Four moderately steep miles. Summit foliage was done a bit better on the way down. Curvy road, could hit car speed on the descent. would be prettier with a non hazy sky I'll stay on the road, thank you on the edge of West Point; strange speed limit sign got to Storm King Highway just before sunset zoomed in road had "fallen rock zone" warnings. Know it's a good road with that warning traffic volume was higher than ideal, but tolerable. Would be more fun on a weekend morning. Road had a speed limit of 20 mph in a lot of it; it was curvy. first glimpse across the Hudson through the trees one last climb done with the road just in time before it got dark added map of my bicycle ride

We had another very boring cloudy and rainy week, not the best also for taking pictures. Anyway, even if the weather has not been the most favourable foliage-wise (the first part of fall was much warmer than usual, and the last few weeks have been very rainy and warm) we are starting to have a quite evident change: These trees in Turin, which looks extremely unhappy about the weather since August, are practically bare already: Also at my place the trees of the woods just above the village start to turn yellow. It would have been interesting to have a walk and look at them more closely, but as you can see the weather is not exactly the best one for walking in the woods.

HIke I did in the Hudson Valley last Sunday, Nov 4. After my bike ride to the Hudson Highlands, I wanted to do a hike up there. Took the train to the trailhead, was staying in NYC. Night before I saw this guy at night on the dark streets of NYC underneath the train tracks F/G that I was about to take, got to the tracks just as the train pulled out. got off in Bryant Park, Midtown Manhattan people were ice skating already NY public library, 42nd street train was completely packed out of NYC; lots wanted to escape on one of the last good fall weekend days. Going underneath the new Tappan Zee bridge. First 30 miles was peak foliage, then past peak especially where there's hills Felt like 80+ people exited the train at the hiking trail stop (Breakneck Ridge). Incredibly crowded trail, was a line getting up slowly thinned as people separated by pace. Scrambling sections, some optional, took a scramble whenever possible very steep trail, got up fast. View of the Catskills on the horizon looking north Mt. Taurus / Bull hill further in from the river more rocks way too crowded dog made it up, one hiker brought her dog on the train ridge continues further but we decided to head downhill and then tack on Bull Hill one last look south down the Hudson glimpses of the Hudson through the foliage foliage with no river view and another river view much less crowded once we left the ridge. little stream wonder what that structure is for now at the summit of Bull Hill, much less steep climb. mostly leafless forest to the north with the Shawgunks on the horizon with the taller Catskills behind looking south. West Point guarding the bend in the Hudson right in the middle of the highlands. perfect spot for a fort close up. we could see the NYC skyline a little over 50 miles to the south. Look at where the Hudson ends at the photo and you can make out short spiky things above the hills you can see Storm King Highway blasted onto the side of the mountain; biked on it a few days before. Awesome road, highlands feel special backlit foliage view another view to the south, hopefully these aren't getting too repetitive. Lack of foliage was disappointing but one plus is more open views not sure why this was built. Just fun? about to descend into the village of Cold Spring just in time for sunset. Cold Spring was packed with tourists, heard lots of languages from people who were clearly non-locals. Caught the 5:15 train which was late and packed. Both times it was so crowded the conductors didn't bother check tickets, so I have a free trip for another Hudson Highlands hike, probably much less crowded.

That looks amazing. Reminds me a bit of the Swedish High Coast in terrain, but with only broadleaf trees instead of boreal taiga. Very nice

Photos from today's trip to Fort Craig, Rosedale Canyon, and Mount Withington This morning at Fort Craig, Civil War fort in southern Socorro County Clouds atop the San Mateo Mountains Looking toward the Rio Grande bosque. Most trees bare except for a few cottonwoods. The western side of the Devil's Backbone and Magdalena Mountains Heading towards Rosedale Canyon and Mount Withington I don't think I could have made it up if I only had 2 wheel drive Rosedale "ghost town" Nice ponderosa pine forest View from higher up Patchy snow at 10,000 ft, probably left from the storm we had 4 weeks ago Mount Withington summit East view To the north More snow on the northern side of the mountain Back at lower elevation, Very Large Array in the distance

tommyFL. Strangely those lower elevation areas look much more barren than here, would have thought that area of NM saw more rain.

tommyFL . Strangely those lower elevation areas look much more barren than here, would have thought that area of NM saw more rain. The lowest elevations (about 4500 ft) get about 10 inches annually. Everything is noticeably browner than a month ago after we've had several freezes.

Dreary weekend apart from yesterday evening, when the sun casted its rays onto the golden foliage. Eiffel tower in the clouds on Thursday morning Pic from the office a couple weeks ago: Was in Lyon early in the week, foliage is mostly green there. Dreary weather there too: Geez that's a lot of people. Makes me think a bit of some train stops in the forests around here, though I've never seen such crowded trails! HIke I did in the Hudson Valley last Sunday, Nov 4. After my bike ride to the Hudson Highlands, I wanted do a hike up there. Took the train to the trailhead, was staying in NYC. Not my picture, but still interesting. This is the view right now from the ski slopes in the high part of the valley (it can be somewhere around 2000 m of altitude). We are still covered by all those low clouds instead. Source: Valsusaoggi
