Interesting disparities between the different parts of Umeå today. The airport read -3.6'C at 8.00 today, the coldest hourly reading of the night and morning. At 8.00 it was 1.5'C at my apartment with puddles of water and no frost. At the area where I work, on the opposite end of the city, there was still frost in shadowy areas at 14.00 despite the 4'C high at the airport. And, this whole lawn has been in shadow all day. That's subpolar sun angles for you.

Let's just say that visibility has differed drastically from day to day this week on the fields of the Kila Valley west of town! Monday: Thursday:

Here there are a couple of random pictures from this week. The weather was relatively warm and sunny until Thursday, then it turned cloudier and foggier again and starting from today it is also cooling down quite a lot. This first picture is the main railway passing though Turin, just before the central train station. It was quite sunny as well. This one is a little park near my university. I liked the leaves color or those trees. Next to my place the visibility has been good allover the week. When leaving in the morning I also managed to take a mountain picture just after sunrise (this is taken from the train) Moving toward Turin instead it was often more foggy, in particular on Thursday. In the worst areas the visibility outside the train was like this one: ^ in theory there is a large field in that place.

The days are getting short. This is what it looks like when I finish from work at 14.00. I can pretend this image was taken in April. I look forward to April. Ugh, too bad it's over 4 months until then... Very very very few trees have any leaves whatsoever. Found this one on Wednesday though with most of its leaves left. I've never seen leaves in December here, at least during the last few years that I've actually been on the lookout for such things. Maybe this year will be a first for me? I've never taken a picture of downtown Umeå from this angle before. Fog was starting to roll in for the evening. Another sunny Saturday. I have been very lucky with my Saturday daylight walks this month. Only 1 Saturday has been cloudy for like a month at least, which is pretty good considering the amount of sun has been pretty low. About 2pm and 7'C. For some strange reason, I have no idea how or why, the leaves were frosted on a particular hill. It makes no sense at all because the low at the airport today was 2'C, and the high in the 7's, and at the time of this picture it was about 7.2'C in my neighborhood and 6.8'C at the airport. And it was also on a hill, so the low should've been higher than the flatter parts especially considering it was a clear night and day. So strange. How could there have been frost??? It was also quite windy on top of that. Road creating a border to the main hardline retailer area with nothing but ugly dumpster looking stores. I haven't appreciated larches enough. They have a pretty cool spooky shape to them, and their needles stay on for so long, and their peak foliage is extremely long. Please kill me. In northern Sweden, roads aren't salted (except for the E4 motorway), one, because salt doesn't work under -8'C or something, and two, because reindeer want to lick the salt on the roads, and so they die. What they do instead, is they pour sand and gravel on the roads. This is good in general, EXCEPT IF YOU HAVE A FUCKING BALL OF FUR OF A DOG. Seriously. Fuck man. And the asphalt hasn't been dry for weeks either. I'm getting sick and tired of having to fucking shower our dog every time he goes out to pee. Our shower has literally clogged up with sand. I had to pick apart the shower drainage and empty it of sand. Wtf. This was literally after just one walk with him.

Some majestic early nautical twilight yesterday (first picture) and today, unfortunately the cellphone camera can't capture the true magic of it but it's still rather good! Both these are taken around 16:20. The blurriness is the camera being unable to adjust to the darkness.

The images are obviously out of focus, so the shots are blurry because of your own lack of patience and desire to take a picture in focus.

You wouldn't have taken a better shot with that camera at 16:20 either. It's entirely possible that the latest cell cameras are better, but if the phone is from five years ago... The first one isn't even half-blurry considering the circumstances, whereas the second one was taken on a path situationed on a relatively dark hill way after sunset with houses in the way for full light exposure, so if the phone is light-sensitive it's obviously going to look darker than it is.
I have nothing more to say on the matter.

NYC photos from Monday interesting old building on the left, better view some non-weather photos I'll put under a spoiler. Subway station marked latitude view out the elevated F train in Brooklyn just off 6th avenue, on 13th street. Right near a very built commercial area of Manhattan, but still townhouses on the side streets. Must be $$ got stone pavement. nice mix of old and new leaves half gone

The shots were blurry because they were out of focus, not because it was dark, although of course, cameras focus easier in bright conditions, but that doesn't mean they cannot focus in dark conditions. As I said, you took one quick snaphot, and it was out of focus, and instead of taking a new picture, or waiting to take the picture until you had made sure the camera was actually in focus, you just shrugged and blamed the camera and lighting, instead of blaming yourself.

Finally the sky cleared enough to show that there aren't many green trees left, and that actually some ones start to be practically bare.
