For instance that young small maple-leaved plane tree: Surprised plane trees survive in Estonia, let alone reproduce. However, saplings tend to keep their leaves longer. There are still birch saplings with leaves here. That being said, species from the south will keep their leaves longer because they evolved in climates with longer vegetation periods.

Grass in the valley isn't summer green anymore. Got a weird tundra-yellow tint. Most lawns are pretty green still though. I like tall grass. What's this? Asphalt that isn't wet??? I haven't seen that since the -10's in the end of October. Btw, I wouldn't mind keeping it looking like this throughout the winter instead of having a bunch of snow and slush. This was very weird. I found catkins starting to open up on a willow. It isn't one of the native willows so I don't know if that's normal in fall or winter, but the willows I know of here get catkins in spring, not in November. Buds in general have gotten pretty large and noticeable, kinda like they would in April. I wonder if it's to do with more growing degrees in general than average, allowing them to grow in the fall and not having to wait until spring, or if it's the resurgence of warmth in November this year that lead the plants to think it was spring. Something I've noticed this fall is that there seem to be a cultivar of birch with some kind of mutation preventing their leaves from getting fall colors, and so the leaves stay 100% green until they fall off, reminiscent of alders. These birches have also retained their leaves far longer than the rest of the trees here, some looking summery still in the beginning of November. These have all lost most of their leaves now though. (And don't be hating on my abhorrent lens flares. My smartphone lens is really scratchy, okay)

Today was sunny and 8/2ยฐC. Nice weather for a bike ride. House owner didn't want to sell back in the days? Can't they leave the poor trees alone?! Football pitches have regained their green tint. Not sure what this is supposed to be? One can see the Eiffel tower. Peak foliage is late on this small maple: 'Murica Woonerf Power lines and at-grade crossings mean we're in the outer suburbs. Where's the palace? Maybe this ruin marks the entry to its park? Indeed, this kind of sign is found in forests located next to palaces where hunting parties used to take place. Old housing New housing I finally found the entrance to the palace. See the Eiffel tower? Here it is! Lots of real estate selling booths. These trees didn't get the memo that it's mid-November. A more normal-looking alley: Suburb has several kinds of places of worship. Cul-de-sac land Construction sites everywhere

My sister has just sent me this picture from home, it looks like it has started to snow over there! Not so impressive, but we didn't see much snow in November in the last few years. It is also interesting to notice that, in this fall-winter, we saw snow earlier than the first sub-freezing temp (the coldest temperatures are being measured right now, and the closest weather station is recording a temp of +0.9ยฐC. My home is about 100 m higher, so the temp is probably just above freezing at the moment). Here in Turin instead it is only depressingly cloudy with chances of drizzle rain :/

Some second week of November pictures:
I went to discover three new roads to the west of town.
Typical November weather entering the first road:
Very original forest:
Apparently someone lived there... very isolated in spite of being so near town (about 9 km off).
Back on the road again:
Found a small settlement called Larslund I didn't know existed prior to the research for that ride:
Another part of said forest, one that is divided by the Enstaberga linkage road. This is approaching the water plant:
This was after said plant, nothing interesting to see there anyway, but still an interesting forest here, as visibility and the weather gradually got worse:
This was the same forest two days later, taking an alternative road:
Just found a dead-end at the end of the day, which cost me a few km to accomplish what I wanted:
Ominous mist over the field:
Nice alley:
Went to some sort of rock processing place and passed through there:
It looked sort of defunct to me, hence there were no barriers of entry whatsoever.
20 metres down here, so don't get too close to the edge:
Another nice forest as the mist gradually took over:
Passing over the E4 motorway in the distance:
Starts to look bad:
... and many of you have seen what happened afterwards already:
Another day, another new road:
On the other end of the river valley I found another nice forest section:
This is a bridge on a road that only allows for permitted motorized vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists, so the bridge quality going back over the Kila stream was... as predicted!

Strange frost formation Arriving at work at 8.30 Leaving work at 14.00 Creek starting to freeze. Nydala lake is frozen again. You could go out about a meter or two, with loud cracks. I would love to try thin-ice skating. Should work well tomorrow, not that I'm going too. Sounds dangerous for the inexperienced. Here's some thin ice skating. I recommend you watch it. Very cool. Very cozy looking in my apartment upon coming home. Don't hate on our tacky crane. For some strange reason my GF wanted it.

First day of my Arizona trip Boyce Thompson Arboretum east of Phoenix No shortage of cacti to look at I even saw everyone's favorite palm tree A reminder of the plants around Socorro where I had been a couple hours earlier... Had never seen saguaro until today. Now they're everywhere. Always liked these; apparently very slow growing and hard to grow Christmas decorations already? No, Boojum tree from Baja California Cottonwoods in canyon bottom I think all the trees with red fall colors were Chinese pistachios. Hole in the Rock in Phoenix, apparently a very popular sunset watching spot I guess the guy climbing up the rock didn't know about the easy way up in the back

Sorry for beating a dead motif but daylight is scarce and I won't be able to take any pictures in Umeรฅ in daylight until next Saturday, so pictures along my way to work is all you're getting. Creek resisting the ice, but it will have to cave in soon. Lots of frost now. Sadly none in the trees. Upsetting. I prefer heavy frost over snow, but I prefer frost in trees over no frost in trees. Close up of frost. Frost cover is extensive enough for some lawns to have zero green colors visible. This one not quite but almost. Green leaves are rare to come by now. Some are foolhardy enough to stay though. This is why I think using the term "budding" in spring is because it doesn't mean anything. Are these trees budding?

Overcast most of today Hiking to Picacho Peak Wire rope to aid climbing. A bit like Angels Landing in Zion At summit Looking southeast towards Tucson. Is that Mt Lemmon in the distance? Terrain is more rugged here compared to NM. Good for scenery, not as good for hiking Arch Canyon Trail at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument Clouds refused to clear Agave Primitive trail left canyon at end of main trail. No mileage or elevation mentioned on trail sign, ended up being a 1000+ ft climb Sun started to come out around 3:30 Highest point of trail Headed back down in a hurry, trying to get back before sunset

I'll try not to post too many photos today as the scenery can get a bit repetitive... Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum (botanical garden/zoo) The place was packed with people; the museum even raised the admissions cost just because of how busy it is over Thanksgiving weekend Surprisingly, one of the only animals that wasn't asleep was this iguana. At Sabino Canyon, also very crowded. You been here AJ1013? Lots of people walked to this man-made pond. Max temp in Tucson was only 70 F but felt hotter. For some reason, 70 F here felt much hotter than 70 F does in Socorro, but might just be my imagination. Trail followed the creek up the canyon Most people hiked the road instead of the trail; shuttle usually runs along here (closed to cars) but wasn't running today Highest viewpoint from road to Mt Lemmon. The road was nice to drive, but sorry AJ, I gotta say New Mexico has better mountains.
