First real snowfall of the season today! It’s been been a mix of snow/sleet/drizzle for much of the day. There’s a dusting of snow on the grass, roofs and parked cars. 0.27” (7 cm) of precipitation so far, not sure how much of that is snow. It dropped to 32 (0 c) last night and should fall into the 20s for the first time tonight. Highs barely above freezing next week. As for fall colors, at this point I’d estimate 5% green, 10% changing, 30% peaking, 45% past peak, and 10% bare. Willows are still green or barely changed, same with some small trees. Wait, you haven't dropped into the 20s yet in Rochester?? I think I've had 11 or 12 nights below 30

What a difference the coast and the UHI makes Oh I agree UHI can make a huge difference. Even my house is usually about 6 to 7 degrees lower than downtown, but even there has hit the 20s multiple times. I just guess Rochester would have about the same time as me. NYC is definetly way warmer than here though

I still have the lights on at 9 AM because it's too gloomy outside. This is why I'd like an earlier start to winter, snow really changes the atmosphere.

Quite warm recently with lows in the high 20s C and highs mostly around the mid 30s C. At the center of the UHI a low of 28.9 C was recorded for the 8th (possibly a record). Note the very low diurnal range yesterday. Had some decent rain after a dry spell but I didn't observe any thunder or lightning. It's much cloudier than last week and the humidity has crept up again.

Skagsudde, a lighthouse 70km south from Umeå has had a very warm November so far, missing the cold clear nights in the beginning of the month that hit the Umeå area The November record, in 2011, was 6.9/2.9 and the 02-15 average is 3.5/-0.5. The October average is 7.8/3.3, so November so far has been a degree warmer than the average October there.

Ålesund so far in Nov A mean of 10C would be a national record for November (by 0.2C), so is unlikely

High yesterday reached up to 43F, with rain and snow showers. Arctic air rushed in last night, dropping us down to 26F early this morning. Heavy lake effect snow showers from lake erie have been hitting me and have cooled the ground off enough to even leave a little bit of snow sticking to the ground and even pavement. Current temp is 29F, heading for a high right around 32F. Tonight I might get my first teens of the year

According to Ogimet, Öland's northern tip had Everblack and never went back. Dubious though, because nearby stations have had way more sunshine than that, and there's a bunch of snow reported even though the lowest temperature during that time was 3.4'C, so there's obviously something wrong.

I don't trust that daily summaries section, always seems a bit glitchy. Such as giving rain symbols on a day that records no precipitation.

NYC is definetly way warmer than here though Rochester is colder than Pittsburgh? Burlington got its first snowflakes mid-October before a freeze [snowing but temperatures just above 32°F]. Sign all the cold in October was with moist airmasses rather than dry so not much radiational cooling.

smoke from fires engulfed the San Francisco Bay Area; people are wearing maske from NOAA via sf.curbed.com/2018/11/9/18080346/satellite-photo-space-smoke-camp-butte-northern-californiausually air quality is good there as airflow is from the Pacific, right now from the east. You can see when the airflow switched from oceanic air to continental from the sudden dewpoint drop to something more normal from the interior west. very dry air over southern California helping fuel the fires

First 20s of the season this morning, got down to 28 (-2 C).
Airport somehow only had 0.1” (0.3 cm) of snow yesterday. I probably got closer to an inch or so.
We’ve had 40 mph winds most of the morning, turned a bunch trees that were beautiful and peaking yesterday nearly bare overnight.
Todays high will probably be 42 (6 C) and midnight. Weird jump in temps last night into the low 40s.

rainless autumn is responsible for California fires. Must be browner than usual for this time of year
