Inspired by a post by Dean in my Finnish buddy Ariete's thread cdweather.boards.net/thread/1512/when-location-first-freeze-nhWe've predicted when we will get our first freezing temps, when when have you guys usually recorded your first freezing temperatures of the cold season in the past? Sorry SH Bros, it's hard to make a single poll for both hemispheres I've looked back as far as I can to see when the first freezes have been recorded. My climate rarely gets freezing highs so I've focused on the lows, if you're prone to freezing highs include those too. Earliest recorded sub-zero low:
1985 - 25th October 1986 - 13th September (Two in the month overall!) 1987 - 23rd October 1988 - 29th October 1989 - 23rd November 1990 - 8th November 1991 - 4th November 1992 - 17th October 1993 - 16th October 1994 - 15th December 1995 - 29th October 1996 - 8th November 1997 - 22nd October 1998 - 18th October 1999 - 21st November 2000 - 25th December 2001 - 9th November 2002 - 10th December 2003 - 19th October 2004 - 29th November 2005 - 16th November 2006 - 2nd November 2007 - 23rd October 2008 - 28th October 2009 - 18th October 2010 - 17th October 2011 - 7th November 2012 - 4th November 2013 - 23rd November 2014 - 6th November 2015 - 23rd November 2016 - 8th November 2017 - 20th October Overall
September: 1 October: 14 November: 15 December: 3 Earliest: 13th September Latest: 25th December Basically a day in October/November is the theme, so I'm actually not going to vote in the poll since it's practically even between them. Some anomalies in December, and the real outlier in mid-September 1986. It was especially weird because we recorded another freeze a couple days later, the all time low for September, and they're the only freezes I can find that occurred before the 16th of October.

Earliest: September 17, 1959 Latest: November 14, 1938

Average 1872-2017: October 19 Average 1981-2010: October 14 Average 2000-2017: October 22
October is by far the most likely month to get the 1st freeze.

Usually, in late crummer (just 'round February); occasionally even mid-crummer (January).

The average date of first frost in Saskatoon is September 20th. Earliest on record is August 13th (1979), latest is October 7th (2009). The average date of last frost is May 18th. Earliest was April 26th (2012), latest was June 14th (1969).
The average length of the frost-free season is 124 days. Shortest was 74 days in 1979, longest was 160 days in 2012.
We've had several nights that have dropped to around 1C already the last couple weeks, and we have a forecast low of 0C tonight, so this will most likely be our first proper frost date this season.

Heathrow usually sees its first frost around 22nd November.
Central London maybe late December or early January.
Norwich would probably be early November.

Lol. The frost date for 91-17 is earlier than 61-90 right where Umeå is. 91-17 61-90 Difference:

Umeå airport has never had a September with no frost. The first frost has been on the last of September a few times though. nei do you think you could check the average first frost for the Umeå University station?

No idea about the exact date, it's one of the many stats our weather service doesn't publish. Usually in late September or October though.

That's odd. I unhid Baba's post and immediately a fly landed on that part of the screen.
As for the first freezing temperature in Sheffield, it is probably late Oct/early Nov some time.

Falsterbo, the mildest station in Sweden, almost had its first frost on the 22nd of January in 2007 except for ONE frost in November. They didn't have a single frost between the 3rd of November and 22nd of January. Goes to show how ridiculous that month was. In 2011 they didn't have a frost until the 15th of January 2012. 91: 20/11 92: 13/1093: 24/10 94: 24/12 95: 04/11 96: 14/11 97: 27/10 98: 18/11 99: 15/11 00: 18/12 01: 14/11 02: 20/10 03: 23/10 04: 19/11 05: 21/11 06: 03/11 (so close to 22/13) 07: 15/11 08: 21/11 09: 02/12 10: 17/10 11: 15/1312: 28/10 13: 26/11 (repeat of 2006) 14: 25/12 15: 23/11 16: 07/11 17: 11/12 Average is 16/11 (would've been 19 if 06 didn't choke).
