Is air frost when the thermometer hits 0'C or when it dips below 0'C? I.e. is a low of 0.0'C a frost or not?

That's a freeze. Frost occurs at certain levels of air between 0Β°C and +5Β°C, and it depends on humidity and wind

According to SMHI an air frost occurs when the temperature dips below 0'C. Is it really a sarcasn-evokable question?

Yes. I include 0.0 or below as the first air frost. Ground frost can of course happen at temperatures well above 0.0Β°C; as long as the ground temperature is still freezing. Air frost is measured at the standard level of 2meters.

Yes. 0.0Β°C is the freezing point of water so any water molecules in the air will freeze at 0.0Β°C or lower. The freezing point of air is much much lower though depending on nitrogen and oxygen content (-210 to -218Β°C).

Didn't know anyone used the word "frost" to represent a freezing temp. Most use freeze, since it makes sense.

In the UK a "frost" would generally refer to a temperature of 0C or below, so when the "first frost" occurs it is when the temperature drops below freezing. Of course technically an "air frost" happens at below 0C & a "ground frost" is a visible frost on the grass/rooftops/cars etc.. when the air temperature is above 0C (generally from +0C to 5C).

Of course it is. 0.0 C is freezing, 0.1 C wouldn't be considered an air frost, or freeze, but could easily be a ground frost.
