rpvan You don't like my forecast? Gives me flashbacks to 2009-10, 2013-14, 2014-15 or 2015-16. Lol. I think you're fucked this winter unfortunately. All the signs are pointing to a warm dry winter for the PNW. Hopefully you get lucky.

Although there is one small glimmer of hope...one of the analogs cited in a few forecasts is 1968-69 which was the second coldest winter in Vancouver since records began in 1937.

None were great here although iirc none were terrible either. Edit: 14-15 was garbage.

My wishcast is basically the opposite of what we've seen over the past decade. PV over the PNW while the east roasts for 10 years. I approve

All signs point to a very very not good year

Even December 2013 wasn't that special...was mostly dry with a few cm of snow. I seem to recall that was more of a backdoor arctic blast with Oregon taking the brunt of the cold weather...(think Eugene or Portland dipped to -17C?). With that said, it was the last time YVR dipped to -10C so you do have a point there. Can't believe its been more than five years now...average is twice per year. The last notable arctic blast with an arctic high pushing south from the Yukon and central BC was way back in Jan 2012....before that, Nov 2010. Been a rough decade from a cold weather enthusiasts perspective over here. Even 2016-17 didn't feature a major blast as it was just persistent arctic glances from the east as temps generally hovered between -8C and 3C.

Not sure what Portland got but Eugene (the airport on the outskirts) recorded -23C/-10F on December 8th, 2013. The city proper was a bit warmer but still very cold. I was lucky enough to live there during that event.

Looks like the beginning is promising, it's following my schedule. Next week will bring stable sub-zero temps and snow.

What do I want? December: Below average temperatures, above average snow. No warm weather or rain. January: same February: same March: Winter weather to start. Then a quick warmup to mild weather, highs around 10C. Mostly dry and sunny. What's the actual weather so far? The opposite. December 1st: Above average with rain all day, total of 25mm. December 2nd: Above average with some rain. 3mm so far at noon.
