October was 1.1F below normal and wet, twice the normal amount. Most of the rain fell in the first 10 days of October, including 2.05"/52mm on the 1st. There were a few summerlike days. The 20th was an exciting weather day with strong winds and snow/sleet/rain mix in the middle of the day. Wind gust reached 53mph, sustained wind 32mph. A trace of snow was recorded at the airport but many places had a short period with lying snow. The rest was seasonal and consistent weather. Milwaukee was warmer, 0.2F above normal, and also saw one 30C day and less rain.

The first half of October was basically a write-off, barely warmer than early November weather. The second half was magnificent, mostly sunny and above average (including the record high for the month), a VERY welcome reprieve after two months almost entirely well below average temperatures Despite the wonderful warmup, the averages still came out to about 2C below average thanks to the frigid first half. It was also a very dry month with only 8mm of precipitation. The first half of the month was quite gloomy and second half quite sunny, so I imagine sunshine hours will end up being pretty average. So far the mean temperature for 2018 is about 2.3C colder than it normally is at the end of October. Stats (one day of data missing): Average high: 9.4C (normal: 10.3C) Average low: -4.4C (normal: -1.4C) Mean temperature: 2.5C (normal: 4.4C) Highest high: 21.2C (Oct 17th) Highest low: 0.9C (Oct 29th) Lowest high: -0.6C (Oct 13th) Lowest low: -11.1C (Oct 10th) Precipitation total: 8.0mm (normal: 18.8mm) Precipitation days: 5 (normal: 8) And here comes the sunshine - 207 hours of bright sunshine in October (62.9% of possible sunshine), well above average! Guess the second half really did make up for the first Updated weatherbox:

Still solidly above average, even if not as much as 2016 or 2017 Here are the anomalies for all NYC stations: KNYC +0.8 F KJFK +0.9 F KLGA +1.7 F KEWR +0.8 F "Slightly above average" is the correct phrase here.
Last year was like +7 F across all stations (which was gay AF, unlike this year).

Now that's an insane August. Sakata isn't far behind those numbers either (553mm), so it's definitely legit. That 652.5mm is the highest I could find in Shinjo's data for any month. Also of note is the warm and relatively snowless March, which is unusual.

Hereโs @ski โs climate. Interesting year. We could never dream of that April or May. Summer looks extremely stable, odd precipitation pattern.

Despite most of the southern stations having a freeze in September, Lohja held out and still hasn't seen a September freeze since 1993.
