🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 Far below average in Grytviken—really accentuates the cooling Southern Ocean! Not a single day above freezing-point (not even close on some days), and it's not even winter yet; getting colder down there by the year. Even its "summer" forecasts comprise of 1°-5° C maxima and sleet/snowfall nowadays...bloody oath.

Quite a change in weather. From 26C to 8C highs in Salla, and then maded frost on Wednesday.
Meanwhile in Kilpisjärvi 1C high and possible snow/sleet. A low of -4C is quite close to their June record, -4.7C in June 1962.

First time this year that Yellowknife will see highs in the 60s for more than 2-3 consecutive days (happened once in April). It's been a cold spring there...

No risk of heat stroke in the world's northernmost town (10,000+ inhabitants), but you might need dark curtains in your bedroom

A bunch of cold forecasts, not all are polar. But they are much colder than similar latitudes or what most people want in early Summer. The first few are near Lake Superior. The temperature of the lake ranges from the high single digits (40sF) to 3C/37F in the coldest parts. So anywhere near the lake can have chilly weather. But these are worse than normal. For reference Thunder Bay's forecast ranges from 17/7 to 24/8. Windigo is on Isle Royale in the western part of the lake at 48N, nearest city is Thunder Bay. Whitefish Point is on a peninsula in the eastern part of Lake Superior, close to Sault Ste. Marie. Not a single day above 15C at 47N. Quebec Harbour is another island, on the Canadian side. 48N. It's colder at night than the others and still chilly during the day. Caribou Island is a tiny island near the coldest part of the lake. 47N. Is the forecast accurate? The water temperature is 3-4C, so it could be. Further north in the arctic Hudson Bay, Sanikiluaq is barely above freezing, 57N. Along the west coast of North America. Neah Bay has two warm days, then a bunch of cool consistent ones. 48N, on the northwest part of Washington state. San Nicolas Island is almost as cold as Neah Bay, and horrific for sea level at 33N in summer. This is south of LA and Phoenix...But Wikipedia says the average is 19/13 in June. San Nicolas IslandFurther south, Guadalupe Island is at 29N and...this forecast has to be wrong. No way it is this cold. Guadalupe Island Wiki Page. Another suspicious forecast off the coast of Mexico, 22N. 22/21C and sunny every day? Some people call that heaven, but not me. Out east in the Atlantic Ocean: St. Pierre and Miquelon has only 1 somewhat warm day at 15C. 47N Sable Island is extremely stable but not at all summer-like. 44N

Yellowknife had morning thunderstorms yesterday and was 21C at 6am. We in Vancuckver still haven't had anything close to thunderstorms. Amazing what being in the centre of a continent can do, even at high latitude. www.wunderground.com/history/daily/ca/yellowknife/CYZF/date/2019-6-13I hope to fuck that I experience some high latitude thunderstorms when I'm there in 15 days.

I never realized how variable it can be in this area this time of year. Mid 20s C in most of eastern Siberia except near the coasts. And 18C in Lanzhou yet 36C in Xi'an? Yes Lanzhou is usually colder but that is quite a difference! Magadan, cold as usual thanks to the ocean.

The forecasts in both Yakutsk and Verkhoyansk look like ass. I would actually prefer to be right here in NYC than there over the next 10 days (our nighttime lows are a bit shittier though; I will admit that). Yakutsk: all 9 days of the TWC forecast after today are above 80 F. Verkhoyansk: I see like 3-4 consecutive 30C days next week starting Wed. Pretty epic though.

Norilsk forecast has a few warm days at the end again. Do the forecasters just put warm weather at the end to get their hopes up? Similar to this video:

Yeah, very warm for Greenland. Does not look tundra-like even if not that hot, and this place is one among very few that have summers just warm enough to avoid tundra and put it into subarctic:

Some impressive Arctic warmth you Northerners got up there! Meanwhilst, I would love to know the current snowfall data for Grytviken this year; the forecasts have been showing persistent snowfalls ever since "summer" (yes, I've been following them ever since), and there appears to be no end in sight for the snowfall at Grytviken, now in early winter:
