Somewhat reluctantly, but Vladivostok is also warming up: However, Yakutsk, located at many degrees higher latitude, seems much more summery:

Farken oath, the deep cold in Grytviken is just unrelenting! AAO going strongly negative (–3), so might very well be a taste of what's to come farther north:

heat in Siberia this summer has melted a lot of sea ice; record low sea ice extent for this time of year; last year was very low in July but a change in weather pattern in August slowed the melt

The deep cold continues to bite Grytviken, with more than a week's worth of snowfalls:
LWT activity still focused around the South Atlantic quarter.

shows how unusual the low sea ice on the Russian side of the Arctic Ocean is

sea ice extent graph comparing to some previous low years. Right now we're at record low for this time of year but still depends on August weather for whether we will get a record ice-free Arctic Ocean

Hot as fuck in Belaya Gora still, and then the bottom just falls out and they go directly into (likely a false) fall: Awesome change of temperatures.

Fark, Grytviken just can't catch a break from the deep antarctic LWT surges:

Ridge A is one of the coldest spots in the world. There is no official weather station, but there is a telescope there with some weather updates and webcam images. Current temp is -60C soral.as.arizona.edu/HEAT/live/

One last bite for Gryrviken, before mildening up to fairly average conditions next week. Although it may be the last (for now), it's a truly fierce plunge to end the cold spell; –11° / –7° C and –11° / –9° C consecutively:
This is a telltale sign that the LWT storm tracks are shifting into the South Indian + South Pacific quarters. It's our turn, now!

Stunning! And yes, hopefully you get in on the action. It's been a non-winter so far which is very bad for various reasons.

Nice view of the Antarctic air pushing northward. Mighty impressive...I don't recall seeing the bulk of the air that far northward covering such a vast swath of ocean.

Vladivostok is not technically Siberian and certainly not a polar climate but Yakutsk is still more glorious.
