Finally got the latest sunshine hours for Saskatoon. Not gonna lie, the contrast between November and the rest of the year made me laugh when I put it in the weatherbox... cloudiest month of the year by over 78 hours. This was not only the gloomiest month of the year, but the gloomiest month by percentage of possible sunshine since October 2016 (which had 18.5% sunshine), our first month below 100 hours of sunshine since December 2016 (99.2 hours), and the gloomiest month by total hours since January 2004 (45.5 hours). Needless to say this has been quite an exceptional month. With uninterrupted sunshine in the forecast for this entire week in December, plus the possibility of serious cold snaps later in the month (which always bring clear skies) I think it's almost guaranteed we're going to surpass that number quite significantly in December. A few stats from this station: Total sunshine hours: 54.7 (average: 97.0) Percentage of possible sunshine: 20.7% (average: 35.9%) Bright sunshine days: 15 Sunniest day: 7.7 hours (Nov 17th)

^Saskatoon has 7 months with 50F average highs for 1981-2010. Spring and Fall were below average this year. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskatoon#ClimateNovember was colder and drier than average. The monthly min was milder than an average November and there was no extreme cold. Still, Madison had 14 ice days, 16 consecutive days below normal, and the monthly max was only 51F/10.6C. Only 4 days with snow cover, not much snow.
In Milwaukee 4 of the first 6 days reached 50F/10C, then zero of the next 24. only 3 days reached 41F/5C in that period. 5 ice days and 6 days with snow cover, so lots of highs in the 30's. There was a good snowstorm on the 25th but it missed both cities. Only the extreme southeast part of the state got snow but some spots had a foot overnight.
Compared to normal: High temps in Milwaukee -7.0F/-3.9C in Madison -7.7F/-4.3C Mean temps in Milwaukee -4.9F/-2.7C in Madison -5.3F/-2.9C Min temps in Milwaukee -2.7F/-1.5C in Madison -2.9F/-1.6C

Holy shit, never knew how cold Saskatoon was. only 6 months a year having temps above 40F is cold, even for me This was a mostly below average year. April and September in particular were by far the coldest I'd ever experienced, and Feb/March/Oct/Nov were several degrees colder than average as well. It's a pretty cold climate but this year we lost more non-frigid months than any other year I can remember.

Here's Charlottetown, PEI 2018 stats so far. They had snow in June, which is very rare. Slightly warmer than normal overall this year and about average snowfall so far. I don't see the stark temperature contrast between April to May as in SK, WI, and NY for example.

You know that winter is gonna be cold no matter what, but getting wintry cold in months that are 'supposed' to be mild really sucks ass

Coldest and second-snowiest (after 1923, which recorded 9.1 inches, all from a single storm) November on record! November's average high is only 0.2F higher than October's average low...November's average low is lower than October's record low. Incredible. 2018 is truly a weather rollercoaster here. This box looks like one of those 12-years-spliced "cherrypick climate" boxes. Correction for obnoxious storms hitting tiny areas, because they somehow always hit MCI and nowhere else (basically every precipitation event this year except the massive 5-9 October storm)

That seems like a dream climate of someone who likes warm summers but with cold winters and really cold shoulder seasons

I'm okay with winter weather in the winter, even if it's overly cold for my liking, but when it's below freezing and/or snowy in March, or April, or October, I have a real problem with that. And that's probably the biggest single flaw with Saskatoon's climate for me, the winter weather and cold snaps tend to bleed into the shoulder seasons far too much, and it's far too easy for a below average month or two to turn an otherwise decent year into a crappy one. Though I gotta say 2018 has been really special in that regard, we get crappy individual months or two pretty regularly but I've never seen a full half of the non-frigid season ruined like this before. Very impressive.

going to post Amherst so I can continue to fill in my yearlong chart very cloudy and wet fall. Giorbanguly might be interesting in the sunshine numbers. Sunshine numbers are from Blue Hill Observatory, a 600 foot hill just outside of Boston, using the same recording methods commonly used in Europe (C-S ?). Cold November, too; as well as parts of October. Sunshine totals for Boston will likely be barely over 2000

Not surprised at the low sunshine hours. The shoulder seasons+August have been unbelievably cloudy
