Surprised it's the coldest month since February 2015 over there. I thought December 2017 would be colder

Very nice month with pleasantly cool temperatures and a good amount of rain while not being cloudy all the time. Only 2 frosts occurred. Possibly the best January ever recorded. Temperatures were far above average when considering Seattle's stableness. 10th warmest January ever recorded with data back to 1894. Surprisingly this January has the same average temperature as January 2018. The difference is that January 2018 had 25 rainy days amounting to more than double the rain and was much cloudier.

Hot, humid and beautiful. The best summer month we've had, and so soon after 2017 too. Maybe the climate really is changing?

To put in some perspective, here's what it would look like if Australia was in the Northern Hemisphere

Average high/low close to normal (slightly above) and a good bit more rainfall than normal. Had a number of chilly days, but nothing too impressively cold. Disappointed to have just five days with freezing lows. Lowest max: 43F Highest min: 56F Highest dewpoint: 65F Average dewpoint: 40F Lowest dewpoint: 11F Days with thunder: 2

One of the best months since moving here. Departures: Avg max: -1.7F/-0.95C - These were much warmer, but the cold end of the month skewed them downward. Avg min: +0.3F/+0.15C - see above Precip: +0.71in/+18mm - Wet pattern began in October and has seen no breaks other than a brief dry stretch in mid-December. Snow: +4.7in/+11.9cm - More than double the average. A 12-day stretch, the 11th-22nd, had more snow than the entirety of winters 15-16 (5.9"), 16-17 (4.9"), and 17-18 (7.7"). Despite above-average temperatures for most of the month, it felt far more "wintry" than anything I've experienced in KC so far thanks to the whole "actually having snow for once" thing.

Bangkok (Bang Na Agromet) ---------------------------------
Mean max: 32.2 C Highest max: 34.6 C Lowest max: 27.4 C
Mean min: 23.0 C Highest min: 25.2 C Lowest min: 20.2 C
Rainfall: 1.6 mm Rain days (> 0.1 mm): 2
A fairly average month. The lack of rain and wind, field burning and persistent inversion led to some horrific smog most of the month.

Portland was only 49°F avg high and 57°F warmest day because of the winds coming off of the Gorge. Rainfall was significantly below normal at about 2.79” and it seemed very sunny for January. Too bad they don’t record sunshine data anymore.

I don’t know.

A legendary month for SE and inland Australia with numerous records both monthly and all-time for both lows and highs set. Highlights include new all-time record for Adelaide, 49.5C in Port Augusta, 46.0C at Melbourne Airport, 47.6C in Kerang Vic (new Vic January record) and an new all-time Australian record high low of 36.6C in Borrona Downs, NSW. The previous all-time record was 35.9C in Noona, on Jan 18 2019! This month, the national record high low was exceeded TWICE, with atleast 4 occurrences of 35C+ lows. I've completely lost count of the 30C+ lows this month all over the nation's interior. See the legend in the following links: Adelaide and SA record temps on Jan 24, a historic day cdweather.boards.net/post/86192/threadRecord high low temp and other epic nocturnal temps in NSW and SA cdweather.boards.net/post/85733/threadMore epic nocturnal temps in NSW and SA cdweather.boards.net/post/85617/threadcdweather.boards.net/post/84820/thread - previous Australian record high low of 35.9C in Noona, NSW - set on the 18th Jan 2019! Jan 15, the previous record day for some locations before the historic events of Jan 24 cdweather.boards.net/post/84608/thread----------------------------------------------------------------- As for here.... very much above avg as has been the case almost everywhere in the SE and inland Australia. Sadly no storms though, and no records were set here. Anomolies: Avg high: +3.8C Avg low: +2.0C Rain: -17.7mm *sunshine is from Mildura and from henceforth will be either from there or Loxton, depending on what the BOM manages to crap out.

Seems like most of Northern Hemisphere had very average months

2019 started with one of those months that felt like it was colder than it actually was, purely because of the snow cover and strong snowfalls dominating the second half of the month. Similarly to Norrköping, the temperatures hardly went into the double-digit freezing all month, in fact I think Nyköping's absolute low was milder than -11°C, but at the same time it didn't reach 8°C here either. Averages seem about right, maybe decimals cooler here, 0.1-0.3°C or something like that. This is because the bay the town lies on freezes over in winter, so maritime moderation of the overnight lows in downtown is merely a factor outside of months like these. Nyköping probably received about 10 mm more precipitation as well, because it's been a proper snow-out this last week!

This January parts of England were more continental than Stavanger...
A very bipolar month in Trondheim - first 12 days mild with hardly even freezing lows, then the last half of the month was colder than normal. Got a lot of snow as the cold period started, that snowpack stayed with us.
Trondheim Airport Værnes (12 m) Mean: -2.1°C (-0.3°C compared to 81-2010) Avg high: 0.7°C Avg low: -4.7°C Abs max: 8.8°C Abs low: -15.8°C (in the city abs low was -11.7°C at Voll 127 m asl) Precip: 63 mm (90 %) Mean snow depth: 14 cm (lacking data for Værnes so Lade is used) Sunhrs: 30 (data from Trondheim - Gløshaugen)
Røros (625 m) had avg high -5.1°C and avg low -12.3°C, mean -8.7°C, abs low -29.2°C, mean snow depth 22 cm. While on Hitra, mean was 0.9°C and abs low -6.9°C
Stavanger (Våland, 72 m) Mean: 2.6°C Avg high: 4.4°C Avg low: 0.7°C Abs max: 9.3°C Abs low: -3.9°C Precip: 85.2 mm (ca 85 %) Sunhrs: 23 (recorded at Bergen Airport)
Drammen (8 m) Mean: -3.9°C Avg high: -0.3°C Avg low: -7.4°C Abs max: 9.4°C Abs low: -16.4°C Precip: 41.6 mm Mean snow depth: 18 cm Sunhrs: 54 (data from Oslo)
