heavy downpours.
I hate thunderstorms. power outage sucks. and sweden doesn't get powerful thunderstorms to begin with, only weak nuisances. if i lived in central europe, where they have proper thunderstorm, i'd appreciate it more i think.

When it's over. I don't like thunderstorms at all.

I like the heavy rain but not the thunder/lightning. Hard time sleeping at night when they're forecasted and I feel paranoid when making outdoor plans more than I should be.

Precip rate, wind speed, and thunder (in that order) are the only critical aspects of a thunderstorm IMO—I don't really care for lightning. Mainly owing to the fact that I prefer frontal storms characteristic of late winter and spring, to plain old convective storms characteristic of summer. Frontal storms are just far more ominous, and deliver much more rain at oftentimes higher rates.
Order of importance (from top to bottom):
I. Precip Rate
II. Wind Speed
III. Thunder
IV. Lightning

LIGHTNING. BY FAR. The whole point of thunderstorms is the LIGHTNING.

Lightning is definitely the best part, followed closely by heavy downpours. Thunder is also fun but not as exciting as lightning.

For me it is the lightning and the thunder in second. I could do without the rain. I prefer a dry thunderstorm, like what they get in Phoenix. Some epic lightning there but the desert atmosphere is so dry that rain that falls never hits the ground, in most cases.

A favorite part would be when someone can assure me that it never ever gonna happen again.

The thunder is by far the best part. Not much beats loud booming thunder.
Second is close. If I’m in an open area with a clear view of the sky, it’s lightning but if I’m just in my house or some other building, then torrential rain. If the rain is lighter though, high winds take second. Gusty winds are an underrated part of thunderstorms.

They are too damaging to society, shutting off power, damaging property, etc. Thunder is harmless, so is lightning as long as you are indoors. Small hail is harmless but cool too.

Nope. Gusty winds are obviously the worst part of storms. They are too damaging to society, shutting off power, damaging property, etc. I don’t really care, it’s worth it for a short power outage or some downed branches. And 40-50 mph winds don’t even do anything except knock down some twigs. And 60-65 mph winds would happen once or twice a year in Rochester and never caused any real problems.

Can't believe I never posted in here. I love it all - the drama and excitement of a proper thunderstorm amazes me, from the cloudscapes, to the thunder, lightning, and the winds, the rain/hail. All of it.

Watching it arrive is always fascinating and quite underrated IMO. It's always fun seeing the convective clouds slowly build up and start to dominate the sky throughout the day before a big one rolls by and unleashes its fury, especially in a rural area where you have a full view of the sky (one of the perks of living somewhere with flat, unobstructed topography).

Number 1 is heavy rain. 2 is high winds, as long as the winds aren't too high, do damage etc. 3 is a tie between thunder, lightning, and the dark clouds.

Thinking about it after last night I can say I particularly like hail and loud thunder. CG's are always good, positive ones better, a loud bang of thunder that I feel as well as hear is the best of course!
