Ariete that's about as cold as Duluth, MN-- less continental, of course - somewhere in the Michigan UP might be a better match for temps but probably too much snow

California
Stereotypical: Most of the coast up to San Francisco (Warm summers, mild winters, dry), Central Valley for inland
Prototypical: Central Valley (Hot and dry summers, cool and wet winters)
Anti-stereotypical: Dozens. Salton City (subtropically humid summers, extremely dry, chilly winter lows; Coachella Valley has wet winters and somewhat mild winter lows), northern coast (Very cool and wet), Castaic (summers are sweltering even though it is very close to L.A.), San Diego (weirdly dry at winter :/), Vandenberg AFB region (upper teens to lower twenties highs year-round although I don't think its crazy to spike to the mid-upper thirties during summer), Alturas (temperature swings), Bodie (incredible ranges, moderately hot summers with chilly nights, cool winters with frigid nights, a few rainy days each month even during summer). The Bay Area has huge temperature swings too, year-round. The Inland Bay area has been below zero, only for temperatures to shoot up to the mid-twenties in January 2015. For a summer example, 2020/9/1 got above 40ยฐ in SF.
Anti-prototypical: SoCal alpine regions (second precip. maximum during summer due to monsoon)

How idiotically pointless. If you're going to revive a 1 year old thread, post something useful, instead of blurting "Bump!" like a brain damaged toddler

I'm just gonna go by region, as the USA is too vast. For the East Coast, spots like Nantucket and Cape Cod go against the continental stereotype. Only spots on the East Coast that have an oceanic climate (as per kรถppen), look more quintessentially European in nature.

Australia: Stereotypical: Marble Bar, WA Prototypical: Sydney, NSWAnti-stereotypical: Strahan, TAS Lmao not even close. Prototypical (i.e., the average) would be Cowra or Parkes in Central West NSW. Climates like Sydney cover a very small land area.

Climates like Sydney cover a very small land area.I thought the coastal strip from Northern NSW to the southeast had similar climate genetics (maybe even southeastern QLD). So I concluded that they were the 'average' type. But then again, within a year (since my post was from 2020), I have become more familiar with other Aussie climates, especially inland ones. Lol

would have thought stereotypical is NYC; most people think of NYC first when they think of New York State They definitely do but the stereotype climate wise though is that New York is freezing and snowy much of the year.
