Come on Turku! I think we got Sapporo out-hanamied last year, and we can do it this year as well!
The Helsinki hanami festival isn't until 19 May, though, but it rarely corresponds to the real blooming date.

I haven't heard about this either. Have you? I actually saw it on TWC of all places about two days ago. Insane flooding in that region right now.

From earlierin the month, North Platte, NE hit -25 (-32 C) and set itโs March record low.
More impressively was that it was the coldest temperature in any month since 1989. March is over 10 f warmer than the winter months, making this an amazing stat.
Big change today from Thursdayโs 70 f, just got to 38 (3 C) today and had several snow squalls. Maybe an inch of accumulation so far.

March so far has been pretty dry here lately as storm systems have largely been missing the area. The airport has only recorded 0.19" for the month to date. Yet for some reason the local news has been going on about how wet it's been. Pretty much no rain in the forecast over the coming week and temps look pleasant.

Lmao. These have got to be the most pathetic "spring days" ever lol. Every day has snowed and the amount has been like 15-20cm. Three more and spring will have officially started on March 15th with like 80cm of snow on the ground.

2.7โ of snow fell last night but it all melted with the sun.
This March has been very sunny so far, and dry too, so it doesnโt feel that bad even if itโs below average so far.
The forecast though is bullshit. More snow and ice days and cold and maybe if weโre lucky 1 day in the 50s.
Was supposed to be a warm finish but now weโre right back to fucking February.

kinda boring weather last few days. very low dewpoints though non-chilly temperatures (40s). Yesterday lots of snow left up north, not much south of 43ยฐN or so

strange pattern near Seattle. record warm March temperatures there but the airport station recorded a low above 60ยฐF this morning while the university station (closer to downtown) recorded a low in the mid 40s. some weird foehn effect that only one station was receiving? also interesting to see dewpoints drop with heat instead rise as would happen in almost any heat wave here. Some interesting temperatures today that seem to have came out of a random number generator:
SeaTac: 79F/59F WFO Seattle: 77F/42F Olympia: 78F/28F Quillayute: 81F/39F Bellingham: 74F/32F Hoquiam: 79F/50F
Record highs and record high lows for March before today:
SeaTac: 78F/54F Olympia: 79F/55F Quillayute: 74F/50F (or 73F/50F when discounting the 74F high set yesterday) Bellingham: 76F/54F Hoquiam: 77F/53F
Looks interesting... Foehn winds may have caused some of the strange temps but it's still hard to explain.

These temperatures are very strange with the coast warming quite a bit. Lows are even more strange. Foehn winds from the Cascades are the cause.
And snow from the Cascades melted quite a bit the last few days:

Hopefully that arid blob stays well south of here where it belongs.

Seattle hit 79F again, tying the March record high set yesterday. Here are the temperatures for today:
SeaTac: 79F/54F NWS Seattle: 78F/42F Olympia: 79F/30F Quillayute: 79F/35F Bellingham: 74F/35F Hoquiam: 79F/51F
Not much different from yesterday.
Also, yesterday set the record for the greatest temperature difference between SeaTac and Olympia:

We broke a two-month dry spell last week and had an unusually cool high of 29 C when every other day has exceeded 35 C:

weird pattern in western Washington with a huge variation of lows. Afternoon highs yesterday on the 20th. An impressive 81ยฐF on the Olympic coast. you can see west of the Cascades is hotter than east. huge variation in lows that morning; depending on whether they were getting wind. besides stopping radiational cooling, the wind was a warm foehn off the Cascades. Sites in the Olympics had warm nights too ================================= what pattern is this? Looking at the 850 mb temperatures map isn't that clear but 700 mb (around 10,000 feet) levels are more clear. Kink in the jet stream. Warmer at 10,000 feet over southern BC than anywhere in the US north of Arizona. West of the Cascades is actually cooler aloft than east, but the lower elevations with the foehn wind keeps west of the Cascades warmer surface shows west of the Cascades is hotter vs east. Classic foehn setup air very dry west of the Cascades, lowest dews in the rainforest of the Olympics. With the windflow from the east, right now its in the biggest rainshadow getting dried out twice
