I'm starting to see the first leaves on bushes. Trees are still bare though.

Spring is progressing fast here. Went to update the skyline photos, because in few days it's too late with the greenery.
I've been following spring progressing closely maybe since 2009, and I don't think I've seen leaves on trees and maples flowering as early as 23 April. The birch on our front yard also had visible leaves, not merely opened buds.

nice city views from the park; looks like everyone is getting buds now, at most a couple weeks apart

Yes, indeed. 20C highs expected for the next four days and lows well above freezing, so it will be an explosion from here. I'll have to go and look at the cherries. In 2014 you saw them starting to blossom weakly on 27 April and that was pretty early.

Tavelsjö last Saturday at 21:24 Kinda noctilucent clouds going on that night, which is odd because it's not summer yet. (insert joke about smhi declaring summer) Some flooding Some bush with leaves. Yesterday I went to the arboretum and rapids right outside the city limits to the west. We always try to head out into the platforms out in the rapids, but the dam was open and water was flowing too high to be able to. And we also had a dog with us, which made it so we couldn't take alternative climbing routes. Fakking stoopid dog. Jumped onto the paper thin ice sheet and began walking around there like an idiot. Almost fell in on multiple occasions, and when he was gonna jump back, the ice broke and his head got dipped into the water. Fucking deserved it stupid dog. It's a pretty ugly dog lol and it's got a major crush on me and wants to hump me every fucking second. There were a bunch of this tree. Don't know what it is. It's not a native species, but I think it's naturalized itself and not all of these were planted I'm pretty sure. Not a huge number of leaves but leaves all the same! Most bird cherries are budding still, but there was one that had started leafing out. I have only followed the leafing process since 2016. 2016 had a pretty average spring and saw leaves around the 4th of May. The others had either very cold marches or very cold aprils and saw leaves a few days later starts. This year it's the 23rd of April. Pretty good. Blood beech, strange dead tree, a couple of spruces and a manor

Today was really hazy. Especially in the morning, not so much in the afternoon. When I first went outside to go to the grocery store at like 10am, it was like when I was in Bangkok. Very weird. Wonderful day today. It was 20.6'C in my area at 14.15. 18.0'C at the airport at 14.00 (19.2 at 13.00). When I went east to the city center it got noticeably cooler surprisingly enough. Lots of green trees, but all of them (except the saplings close to the ground) are green due to catkins and not actual leaves. Pretty much indistinguishable from leaves from a distance though. It's really dry here. We've had 2-5mm of precipitation in the last ~35 days, and although these fields in particular had snow a week ago, they're pretty dry from the 15-20'C sun we've had since then, and there's a top tier fire hazard warning, yet this farmer was burning cut branches and twigs in the middle of the field with last year's grass. Pond doing fine, and this area has started getting grass because of the snow that's been lying shaded and melting down into the pond. You'd expect the river to have a heavy spring flow. After all, as you can see on the satellite image at the top of the thread, there's still a decent of snow right upstream (and to be honest in shaded and woody areas even around Umeå), and it's been like 15-20'C pretty much every day the last week all over the county all the way from the Scandes down to Umeå. However, the river is really low. Very odd. It was a lot higher just a couple of weeks ago. As you can probably tell by now because it's basically all I post, I like the look of paths through forested areas. Creek's water level is more in line with what you'd expect. Still some snow down there lol. It was surprisingly empty outside today considering it's the warmest day of the year so far. Dandelion! Damn. There were quite a few along that riverside walk. Also, can you spot the nettles? Flowers The bird cherries have some leaves sticking out, but most buds are still just buds. That bird cherry at the arboretum certainly was a bit of an anomoly. The rest should follow suit pretty soon though. This borderline bush/tree/hedge thing has started getting its leaves. More noticeably so closer to the wall. These Sorbus Ulleungensis (some kind of asian mountain ash) are pretty close to unravelling their leaves. Some birches have started showing their leaves. None have enough or large enough leaves to appear green from a distance though. The ones in the city center square has more leaves, but even this one, despite being an rediculous anomoly with the square being ground heated and all, isn't really visibly green from a distance, except for the catkins.

Some comparisons this spring. March 13th: Flooding from spring thaw. April 11th: flooding is done but no leaves. Also some work was done to prevent flooding next time. April 8th: still brown and somewhat muddy. Big tree with another tree that fell onto it. Almost stepped on this guy: Bird noise is becoming noticeable. Then it snowed and delayed the spring growth a bit. See next post.
April 22nd: Starting to turn green, mud is almost all gone. Very warm, about 70 degrees. A few days later, more green:

Why would you elevate a train station four stories anyway? In Brooklyn there are South American restaurants. And there is a Giorbanguly food ================================== yesterday was clearer lots of blooms out nice evening light expensive house, cheap bicycle wisteria? headed to prospect park in the park

Don't mind this April summer.
Nice temps and gentle sun make a good combination. But it's too dry now, virtually zero precip in Apr.
High of 23.3C today and new April record high. High 23.4C new record for region.
