Love the weeping willows. Too bad that Southern Finland is at the northernmost limit of survival. A hybrid, Salix × pendulina, is fine, but relatively rarely used.

I woke up to this: Quite heartbreaking seeing these fresh verdant leaves having to put up with this shit.

Snowed most of the day today, but always light snow, or just sporadic snow flakes. Nothing stuck. By the end of the day the ground was slightly moist, so I'm not sure even a millimeter liquid equivalent fell during the whole day. Most planted birches are green now. No wild birches. Leaf progress will be pretty much stationary for weeks now it seems. Unfortunately a lot of lawns are starting to become green despite 3mm of precipitation the last 40 odd days and warm sunny weather. Was hoping for some nice yellow grass. I've never experienced green trees and snow before I don't think. Graupel probably, but I don't know about snow. This poor little bird didn't have ass feathers.

^ haha, I see some sleet on on the ground in hamlets near tallinn in their "springs", the climate of northern estoniaa deserves a well earned D Thankfully we haven't had any sleet here although the cold is here too undoubtedly. But the good side of the cold spell is that certain trees and shrubs which look beautiful bloom now longer. But these are random pictures from here today.

Snow clouds Leaves and buds haven't changed any in like 5 days xd. So although these are taken today, they're pretty representative of the end of April (It's been like -3 to 5'C throughout May. Not ideal of plant growth) Man. To me this looks like a nice and warm mid-May afternoon with 16'C t-shirt weather. The reality is the image was taken while it was 5'C out, and it's snowed for the last two days.

What? The trees enjoy it when it has been so dry recently. A grown birch drinks 500 litres of water a day.

I don't know how much a millimeter worth of snow is going to help

Not much probably, but Hiromant was implying that snow would be something bad for the trees when it's not.

I don't think freezing conditions during budding leaves are of any help was my point. As for water, we've had a string of dark blue rain systems come through today - it still looks like Mordor now -, after only 4 mm in April it's a welcome relief.
