That's one of the few I wasn't familiar with. Really good, didn't seem like their usual style so I checked to see if it was a cover. But no, it was indeed written by Paul McCartney. A rare example of the main writer not taking the lead vocal. Here's another I'm aware of. Written by Paul, mostly sung by John: And John wrote this for George, to give him a chance to sing lead for the first time. His Scouse accent was very thick here, he learned to control it better over time. Can you think of any others?

That song "Every Little Thing" also takes me way back distinctly to when I was 12 years old. I can't think of any other examples. For the most part, I never paid any attention to who wrote the song (unless it was a cover), only to who sang it. Of course, Paul's and John's songs were usually credited to Lennon/McCartney, whereas George's were credited just to him.

On the subject of who wrote the songs, snj90 it's pretty stark how dominant Lennon/McCartney were, and how dramatically George improved in last year of the band being together. I have the "1" album, all 27 of their #1 hits in the UK and US. Only one of them was written by George, Something: John and Paul both said it was the best song on the album, and most critics agreed that Something and the other George track, Here Comes the Sun were the two best pieces on there. Ofc, George then quickly went on to have an amazing debut solo album. George Martin admitted he'd underestimated George: "I first recognised that he really had a great talent when we did 'Here Comes the Sun.' But when he brought in 'Something,' it was something else ... It was a tremendous work – and so simple."
Geoff Emerick: "George had a smugness on his face when he came in with this one, and rightly so - he knew it was absolutely brilliant. And for the first time, John and Paul knew that George had risen to their level.
"Paul started playing a bass line that was a little elaborate, and George told him, 'No, I want it simple.' Paul complied. There wasn't any disagreement about it, but I did think that such a thing would never happened in years past. George telling Paul how to play the bass? Unthinkable! But this was George's baby, and everybody knew it was an instant classic."

Syd Barret's Floyd.
A real assault on the senses, especially when I look at that disorientating album cover at the same time.

Strewthless - Interesting take. This time I definitely hear the difference, lol. Though I think I prefer the version I'm used to. Yeah, nothing beats the dark mystery of the finished track, their 2nd best song IMO. Lennon thought it was his greatest creation. I love the Magical Mystery Tour album btw. The fact that this came out the same year as Sgt Pepper is why the colourful, LSD-abusing 1967 incarnation of the band is my favourite.

Strewthless - I agree. I always liked the Magical Mystery Tour album, too - though not as much as Sgt. Pepper's. It's the film that was forgettable.
If I had to pick a favorite song from that album, I think I'd have to go with I Am the Walrus.

^^^ snj90 , the story behind that song is funny. John had heard crazy fan theories about their song lyrics. He'd also heard that some school teachers had been making their students analyse Beatles lyrics in class. So he wrote a song full of meaningless riddles and nonsense lyrics just to fuck with them Once he'd finished the song he said, "Let the fuckers work that one out."

Yeah, and then I guess he went further in Glass Onion with that lyric,
I told you about the walrus and me, man You know we're as close as can be, man Well here's another clue for you all The walrus was Paul.…
Doubt that was the intent when he wrote like song. Like you said, it's just a bunch of nonsense. But this was just to fuck with people.
Here's another one I like from Magical Mystery Tour:

Yeah, they'd become very self-aware and liked to sneak in Easter eggs to tease the conspiracy theorists. Their songs and album covers seemed to hint at things, and they may have even played along with the "Paul is dead" and replaced by a lookalike theory. You mentioned Glass Onion, which is one of the best examples of their self-awareness. The YouTube video is good, it references a lot of the fan theories about the band

Strewthless - Another thing that that was involved in the "Paul in Dead" theory can be seen in the image you posted a few posts back:
That patch Paul is wearing says, "OPP" = Ontario Provincial Police. But some people thought it was "OPD" - officially pronounced dead.

snj90 , people also saw the back cover of Sgt Pepper as a clue, he was the odd one out. And the Abbey Road cover, "funeral procession". Lennon, dressed in white, is said to symbolise the heavenly figure; Starr, dressed in black, symbolises the undertaker; George Harrison, in denim, represents the gravedigger; and McCartney, barefoot and out of step with the others, symbolises the corpse. The number plate of the white Volkswagen Beetle in the photo – containing the characters LMW 28IF – was identified as further "evidence". "28IF" represented McCartney's age "if" he had still been alive while "LMW" stood for "Linda McCartney weeps" or "Linda McCartney, widow". That the left-handed McCartney held a cigarette in his right hand was also said to support the idea that he was an impostor. Ofc, Paul was actually 27 at the time, and the reason he's since given for being barefoot was that it as a very hot day.

Also, Strewthless - have you ever seen or heard of this?
Paul McCartney Really is Dead: The Last Testament of George Harrison
I remember watching it on Netflix while stoned about 10 years ago. I checked; it's not on Netflix anymore. Well, it was a good mindfuck.

I've never heard of it, and it says unavailable on UK Amazon. Although I don't want to go too far down that rabbit hole. I see it as a fun, but silly conspiracy theory. I read a mock interview with "Billy Shears", which is weirdly convincing. Although the theory usually says he's Scottish the-avocado.org/2019/01/21/the-one-and-only-billy-shears-an-interview-with-william-campbell-on-sgt-pepper/

Yeah, I think I also heard it claimed that "Faul" was Scottish, and that he had to learn how to play left-handed.
