snj90, pretty cool. The power in the guitar part comes from George and Paul both playing the riff at the same time.

The Rolling Stones ft. The Beatles
Here's some trivia a lot of Rolling Stones fans don't even know. John Lennon and Paul McCartney provided the backing vocals on this recording.

snj90 , have you heard these remixed verisons of Sgt Pepper tracks? I think Giles Martin did them, brings them up to speed with modern headphones. This sounds great, much better than the old remasters.

Thanks Strewthless - I think I can hear a difference. Sounds fresher. It's from the 50th anniversary album release, they've put out loads of content from it, including studio outtakes and various things. Same for the White Album and Abbey Road. Interesting to hear studio interactions, and to hear songs coming together through the various takes. Here's Take 7 of Strawberry Fields Forever, the outro on this version is a lot gentler than the completed version. Alongside various dubs that were added, the completed version was made by George Martin actually using two seperate takes and slowing one down to match the other, very clever.

Strewthless - Interesting take. This time I definitely hear the difference, lol. Though I think I prefer the version I'm used to.

I never used to like this one, but it grew on me over time. It's actuall pretty advanced, especially given that George was a relatively inexperienced songwriter at the time. Also bold for a western rock band to decide to make Indian classical music, which uses completly different tempos and structures to what we're used to in this part of the world.
He did make that earlier Indian song on Revolver, which is a bit more westernised and was easier to listen to when I first heard it.

I didn't realise this song was so old. I'd always assumed it was from the 70's or 80's.

That explains it, I was familiar with the cover version instead. Weird, since according to Wikipedia the original is one of the best selling songs of all time.

Strange indeed. Then again the 60s are more than half a century ago now. It's slowly becoming ancient music.

Strange indeed. Then again the 60s are more than half a century ago now. It's slowly becoming ancient music. Yeah, it's really old. Most of the music sounds old, but a lot of the music holds up well surprisingly well, there's even the occasional electronic track here and there. So it's weird to hear that music, and see some high definition colour footage like in some Beatles videos, but also knowing that to them, WWII wasn't ancient history, it was as recent to them as 9/11 is to us. And in those days plenty of people were around who alive in the 1800's, and vividly remembered both World Wars, that was their elder generation. An obvious thing to say but I find it cool Anyway, ramble over.

The songwriting on these early tracks is usually nothing special, it's the vocals that sell it. The harmonies are incredibly tight, it sounds amazing when they all sing in unison.

Always thought this was by Phil Collins, obviously he just covered it.
One of these died this week.
