Cilla Black was a big star in the UK. She worked in the cloakroom at the Cavern Club, and she'd occasionally give short performances. The Beatles happened to notice her and pulled all the strings they could to get her a recording contract, Paul McCartney even wrote some hits for her, such as these:

I was going to mention that one, since it is another example of the writer not singing lead. Paul wrote it, John's vocals dominate. Nice song that could be performed anywhere. I prefer the Naked version, without Spector's weird edits. |

snj90, I think this shows the fundamental personality difference between John and Paul. They both decided to write a song about growing up in Liverpool. John writes the dark, cynical Strawberry Fields Forever, whereas Paul writes something far more jolly and optimistic.

Strawberry Fields is a place in Liverpool where John used to play as a child.  As for Paul, I think you'll like this. He give James Corden a tour of Liverpool. He even goes to Penny Lane and his childhood home. Predictably he can't stay anywhere too long because huge crowds start to form |
