The worst is Kuwait, it sounds like Pop Goes the Weasel.

The lyrics are crap, but the instrumental is better than the German or Spanish. The top 3 are miles better than anything else though. I also like the Portuguese and Finnish anthems.

Both China and India have decent anthems.
Several catchy anthems from cricketing nations.

The Israeli anthem sounds depressing. The Nepalese anthem sounds like the music from an early 90s RPG.

Any other countries that share national anthems? I know of the UK/Liechtenstein, and Finland/Estonia.

Most anthems are terrible with outdated, even evil ideas. Take the French anthem. Oh, so beautiful... until you read the text - let's water French hills with "impure" German blood. Or the Russian/Soviet anthem. The main idea of which "you all are worthless nothing, glory to Stalin". And some people like that?

Yes, some anthems contain a lot of politics and nationalist propaganda but I think this thread is more about music than lyrics. I do not separate lyrics and music, because lyrics are important to me. I like songs with meaningful lyrics, only in rare cases I like songs just for melody, like Rondo Veneziano which I have shared today. But yes, I am political as well, as everybody. That's why I dislike the LSSR anthem. To me it is a song of oppressed people. Regarding the current Latvian anthem, it is sometimes criticized too, and I can even support the criticism. It is called "God, bless Latvia" and God is repeated several times in a kinda slavish manner - Oh God, dear God, do this, do that... really? And the melody is quite sad. Some say it is gaudu dziesma - a howling song. It is really not inspiring people to do much. There have been ideas to introduce another anthem, proposing for example Nevis slinkojot un pūstot. However, it is a translation of poetry from Czech language with one added verse and the author of lyrics is Czech writer and translator František Ladislav Čelakovský.

Oh, I didn't know you had any contact with the Czechs. Not only that. The Latvian language orthography has been inspired by the Czech language with letters like č, š...

Not only that. The Latvian language orthography has been inspired by the Czech language with letters like č, š... Even here the letters š and ž are used, although only in foreign words. Č is not used in Estonian? These letters are used in typical Latvian words, like for example čiekurs = pine cone, šaurs = narrow, žagata = magpie...
