The low last night was -2.0C, which is our latest frost in 25 years and might even be our record low for May - will have to check that one.
May has had a colder low than January!

Really cool inversion at the moment, don't think I've ever seen it at this magnitude before.
Jandakot: 10.1C with a 6.4C dew Gooseberry Hill: 20.3C with a dew of -1.5C with ESE winds at 7km/h. Bickley further in the hills: 17.2C with a dew of -1.4C.
Pretty awesome to see it because usually the strongest i'll see it is 5-6C. Like it'll be still and rapidly cooling at Jandakot ~9C and Gooseberry will still have the easterly wind and be 14-15C. Could have something to do with the controlled burns smoke at the moment? No idea but it's cool to see. It could just be regular inversion that we sometimes get but at an extreme scale

Morning lows at various stations across Long Island today: LGA: 48f (9c) FRG: 40f (4c) ISP: 37f (3c) HWV: 35f (2c) FOK: 26f (-3c) HTO: 32f (0c) Interestingly, all of these stations have warmed up to 60 or 61f as of 11am. Great illustration of UHI and radiative cooling.

Some 8-9 degrees below average last days, which is crazy. Today's high is the coldest, 4.7C, which is about 9C below avg.
25 days in January were warmer!
Not seen anything like this since the 1950s. So might not experience it again.
Still not quite record breaking, would need 1C colder for that. Coldest low this May so far a more modest -0.3C. The cold air in the Arctic, which was trapped there in winter, are now escaping and we are right in the path. The weather setup behind this, with a strong High around Iceland-Ireland and a low up in the Barents Sea, are very uncommon this late in spring.

Today finally felt like May, reaching 66 (19 c). The low was still a chilly 35 (2 c), but weโre now done with freezes, snow and cold.

Got to a minimum of โ3.6ยฐ C here, but Cooma Airport and Perisher Valley registered much colder readings of โ6.2ยฐ C and โ7.3ยฐ C, respectively.
Currently not even 4ยฐ C here @ noon, with heavy fog keeping a lid on the temp (92% RH) most of the morning, just starting to clear up now. To contrast, Perisher Valley is currently sitting on 8ยฐ C.

Snow can never freeze anything, so it wouldn't be able to cause cellular luqids to freeze causing frost damage. And most plants can handle a minor frost anyway This sounds completely wrong to me. Can you explain more?
This is what I know: Snow is frozen water. Frozen means it is colder than the freezing point of water, and when it lands on the plant that is warmer it will cool down the plant. If there is enough snow or very cold snow it will start to freeze the moisture in the plant. Right? A light snow and -1 may be survivable to most plants, but sensitive plants will be harmed. The low last night was -2.0C, which is our latest frost in 25 years and might even be our record low for May - will have to check that one. May has had a colder low than January! How is that even possible? I know it just happened, but that shouldn't be something that happens outside of a seasonless or tropical climate.
