It had lots of non-weather forums, but you didn't comment in them. Because I didn't know the users on there and that made it rather lame.

Yeah, I was thinking try it like that for a month and see how it goes. Hopefully by that time we'll have more people with an opinion on the matter either way as well. Perhaps turn it off completely for 3/4 days this week, and then ask people what they think? I dare say most will miss it more than they'd expected. Good idea actually, that'll sort this question out sooner. I'll close it for four days this coming week, then as soon as most of the forum are glad it's back on we'll have another vote to settle it for good: have the shoutbox on all the time, on five days a week, or off all the time. With lommaren in charge of the Always On campaign we can't possibly lose

The feel on the front page is about as barren as the tundra in Coastal Alaska now...

Did they remove the shoutbox?

Did they remove the shoutbox? Yeah, temporarily at least. If you vote "Yes" in this thread we will get it re-instated quick as fuck I really miss it because it allows me to say hello to people coming on and have quickfire chats. Now it feels as lame as Shitty-Data when I look at the front page dammit. Stupid campaign against it.

Felt weird at first, but I'm liking it. Activity in the threads is already picking up

Felt weird at first, but I'm liking it. Activity in the threads is already picking up You always wanted it so little surprise there and btw this is peak activity time regardless. Perhaps it's affected your activity in the other threads but in a true nanny-state fashion you have to impose it on everybody else even tho you lost the vote lol. Loss of respect from me right there Raz

Spending too much time around you Swedes, I've caught the nanny state bug.
I didn't impose it, I'm just one person, and I'm not a mod. Just suck it up, it's only going to last four days. I doubt this will be permanent anyway, and if it is it will be due to the decision of the democratic majority!

No problem mon! A few more days of this boring failed experiment and we'll be guaranteed to get 80% vote to keep the shoutbox on forever WHEN that happens, automatic ban for anybody calling for it to be taken away again

I have to say, I am missing the shout box big time, and tbh, the chat threads haven't seen any extra activity so far without it. Its absence however has taken away a significant chunk of the forum dynamic and has caused tension among some members. If anything, activity in the forums seems to have actually reduced. Can't wait to see it back.

I'll be keeping a close eye on the site statistics and if activity in the forums actually goes down then I'll bring the shoutbox back a day sooner and we'll vote on it then.
I don't mind trying things out and letting people have a say in how this place is run, but I can't let this forum lose the momentum it's built up over the past month or so.

So far its closure has done nothing for the chat threads. If anything this is supposed to be a weather forum, so any justification for its closure should be related to the weather threads, and they've been far more active than the chat section, shout box or not. Personally I think the activity levels of the chat threads should not be the criteria for whether or not the shout box remains open. This is a weather forum after all. Like with forum threads, if someone doesn't like it, they are under no obligation to read or participate.

Is it possible to have the Shoutbox open but with a possibility for those who hate it so much to disable it or close the window?

Anyway, it's just my personal view that I would rather see everything through posting so it can be looked back on. This isn't an AOL chatroom from 1998. But the majority shall decided. I have a feeling most are for it.

Not to mention that I didn't even push this thread to be started. Don't be poisoned by the childish boycott and private message smear campaign that ol' Lommie is running. I just say bring it back if this is the way some people are going to react to a short trial. Clearly one side is much more passionate than the other
